Now, I know I shouldn't take Jim Hill as if he's always right, but I'm worried about the thing HKDL may be getting in it's second phase......... Pirates of the Carribean.... WITH CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW!!!! There's also a rumor that TDS's upcoming Raging Spirits ride may end up having some Empheror's New Groove theming. Now, Don't get me wrong, I love both movies, but don't you think the Chinese would like the ride WITHOUT Johnny Depp, and how did Imagineering end up making almost character based attractions these past few years. The magic may be going down the drain I fear. Article link is here: http://www.jimhillmedia.com/legacy/index.htm?../articles/06042004.1.htm~contentFrame

I think it may be a trend at all the parks. A recent intervew with Eisner and Rasulo said that guest surveys indicate that the want more Disney rides at the parks.
However, ToT, E:E, M:S, the new big e-tickets are not based on movies at all. So who knows.
Yes, I too am against a Johnny Depp version of PotC. But just one scene or if he's just in the background as a surprise. I guess that would be OK. You have to think, considering how budget conscious they are being about this park, would they really pay royalty fees to all the actors for the use of thier likeness?
Look on the bright side at least Eddie Murphy isn't going to be in The Haunted Mansion. :D
As for Raging Spirits (hate that name) yes it looks a little like The Emperor's New Grove but it dosen't sound like the movie has much to do with the ride according to the description I've read.
They could have just as easily said it has an Aztec theme.
Movie based rides will all ways have a place at the Disney Parks. Look at Fantasyland. Pretty much all the attractions are based on movies. Just as long as they don't give up on original rides. Like the Jungle Haunted Mansion I've heard about.
There. Not so scary. Feel any better?:)

*sniff* Yes... it's just I think that they shouldn't mess with a good thing. Though like you said, it would be allright to see Johnny Depp in the background, but not as the star. Besides, many of the movie based atractions were amoung the best. Peter Pan's Flight, 20,000 Leagues, and Mr. Toad amoung them. It's just that now, that Disney is using the characters excessively. It's good to see the characters, but I'd like to see some new ones.

The above statement regarding trends in guest surveys makes sense to me, based on the fact that that's what I do for a living. But our surveys are not the only source we use to gain insight of our guests.

Just interested.

Actually, useing 20K and Toad may not be the best examples considering that they are gone now.
But I know what you mean.
Again, I don't mind the movie based attractions. Especially in Fantasyland.
I would like to see them use some of the newer films.
The Beauty & The Beast ride and the Little Mermaid Ride they designed for Paris look and sound like they would have been amazing rides!
Or how about a new land that looks like the city in Treasure Planet? I thought that looked amazing!
I loved Mysterious Island at TDS! A whole land based on 20K and other Verne stories. No problem with that movie/book tie-in.
Just as long as they don't stop making the E:E or the M:S.
A healthy mix is a good thing.

Changing all these rides may not be so awsome guys! In a couple of years well walk into a disney park and have character overload! They will become redundant and not unique!

Look at character visits! Yes guests complained that they didnt get the chance to see Mickey. But have you parked hoped and seen Mickeys in every park only mintes after you left park??

I remember when there wasonly one Mickey ;) I bet hes chilling out in a disney cruise while his "doubles" roam around the parks!

Anyways not seeing him all the time made it so special to me!

Same with rides! Yes they may need a makeover and cleaning up but..........Aladdins flying carpets? Tritons carousel?? Whats that all about! Next will be ursulas tentacle ride in DCA!

When you cross pollinate too much of a good thing it becomes a weed in the end and looses its speciality! Lets hope this doesnt happen like a Jungle Haunted Mansion?? It can all become a freak ride! :(

With Regards to Tokyo Disney Resort!!! I have so much respect for them! Even something like the Little mermaid playground which i thought would look cheap looks amazing! They can really take an idea and run to the sky with it! I would love to congratulate every single imagineer involved in TD and TDS. What amazing parks! I am absolutely in love with TDR!

If any awsome To imagineer reads this....Id like to talk to ya learn from ya, admire ya!!!!! hehe Thanks for the imagination come true!
