I've recently read that the fire barge is not working at IllumiNations. Does anyone have any info on this? I have a trip scheduled for late April and would hate for this incredible effect to not be working.

probably a temporary break down. I'm sure it will be fixed by then.

For God Sakes, Whatever you do, when you watch Illuminations, do not watch from the balcony Teppanyaki Dining Room in Japan. That freakin' arch got in the way and you couldn't see the images on the globe which is half the show.

The best spot to watch it is in the WSC Plaza. Right in the middle of WSC. It is also the easiest way to exit if you are leaving by the main entrance.

The bridge next to Mexico is NOT a good spot!! The french island isn´t either! The barge will be too far from you and everytime I saw it from there, it seemed that the smoke was always towards us!

I think the far best spots I found to view from are between Mexico & Norway (right where the lamps make the transition). There are some trees there but it offers lots of levels (planters and such) to view from. Not that I endorse standing on planters but... The other place is right between the funnel cake stand (AA) and the shaved ice booth (Japan). Again there are some trees but the location works really well.

I don´t like those spots because I like seeing the whooole lagoon with all the countries around it. The area between Norway and Mexico is nice, but at some point, the Cantina blocks the view, although I think that between your two options, this is the best one. ;) By the funnel cake stand, again, the AmGard Theatre blocks you too!

I have always watched it in alocation near one of the countries. I want to watch one day from the Future World/World Showcase border so I can see all the countries light up at the end. I also want to be near Spaceship Earth when they kill all the lights. That must be cool!!

Maria, You are right on target! WSC plaza is IT. Standing in the center right in front of the planters. Full view of the Whooooole Lagoon.

This may seem weird, but I have found that the best place to view Illuminations is RIGHT at the front of World Showcase, between those 2 outpost stores. There are no islands or trees blocking your view, and when the globe stops, it is parked very close to that spot with a great view. Another plus, is that you're closer to the front of the park, which means you wont have to wait as long for a bus! Try this spot sometime.

Oddly enough, last year on one of three illuminations viewings (I couldn't simply see one) the fire barge also was not working but was just fine the next night. So probably the effect is down for repairs and will be up and running soon. The best place to view the spectacle, IMO, is @ the Showcase Plaza. Here there is absolutely nothing to block the view of all the countries and the location is right infront of the American Adventure laser which is responsible for all those awesome sky effects that are so often overlooked on the online videos of the attraction. I really hope the next video of the show available for download on this site is taken from the plaza. Also, since last year, has there been any new additions/changes to the show? I swear since my visit two years ago that they altered the pattern with which they shoot the white shells off for the finale. Can anyone comment?

I found a really bad spot to watch it from in Norway.

I always love walking out of Epcot once the display has been on, especially if you come all the way down fromt he top of the WS when the worst of the crowds has gone. Everyone stops to look at the SE sphere and it's just a nice atmosphere.

I've gone a few times in the past 2 months... none of those times was the barge working... and I'm really upset about that. The show is really lacking without it!

For the first show (Jan) the torch in the middle of the globe wasn't working either... but it was up and running for the last show (2wks ago)

I just called Guest Relations... the person I spoke with told me she had been talking to a Duty Manager who had been talking to one of the pyrotechnicians, and they said they're trying out new things... so none of the changes are permanent. At least, I hope... :)

I was there for the first-second week of February, and of the 4 times I saw Illuminations, the fire barge didn't go off for 2 of them, and the beginning fireworks didn't go off for 3. I was disappointed, but got the same story, that they were trying things out, so hopefully everything will be back to normal the next time I go. (Should be, since I won't be able to go for another year).

I disagree...

I think that the bridge, 1st one, b/w UK and France is a very nice place to view the show. yes its a tad far away but you can still see most of the countries light up, and still see the globe images. Also, I've talked to Don Dorsey, the creator of the show, and he too thinks that WS Plaza is the best spot to view the show. For the best audio, go to Norway. I've seen the show from the UK torch and the bridge, and was wondering if anyone thinks the little Italy Island is a good viewing place. My only concern with this is though, I don't want that back left fountain to be in the way. Any other good spots? WS plaza can get crowded, plus I want to catch the evening ToN I mean ToD performance, somewhere in the middle, NOT Mexico. And, I'm going in the middle of June, will all the barges and effects be working. Any fans who just wanna talk about the show? I'm a huge fan! Later!
