Very interesting perspective he has...I like.I just wish he wasn't so HSM crazy.
I'm not seeing the "HSM crazy" in this article. He uses HSM to illustrate a franchise that crosses multiple divisions... TV, Studio, Parks. He also answers a direct question concerning HSM. Seems like plausible usage of HSM, which is a huge, CURRENT franchise.

Beyond that, this article is forward looking and shows someone that sees a big picture. His strategy for the future of Disney is also clear and the focus of continuing to reach out to a new base of consumers.

We've also created financial metrics to track them against each franchise so we can see what's going on financially. If we see a trend that is worrisome - or the opposite - we bring it up at this meeting.

When you deal with a company that has a great legacy, you deal with decisions and conflicts that arise from the clash of heritage versus innovation versus relevance. I'm a big believer in respect for heritage, but I'm also a big believer in the need to innovate and the need to balance that respect for heritage with a need to be relevant.

I love classic Mickey, but to kids today, classic Mickey is meaningless. They want modern Mickey, but what is that? If you just keep it in the past, it typically doesn't survive the present.

We've always embraced technology, but thanks to Steve we've done even more. A lot of media companies see technology as more foe than friend. I want the opposite at this company.

Interesting quote here:
"Ratatouille" is an extremely good animated film and will be a classic unto itself, but it is not a franchise. You are not going to see "Ratatouille" attractions in parks.
I know there were rumors floating around here awhile back about a "Ratatouille" attraction or dining experience...I'm interested to see what people around here think about that statement (and the rest of the interview).
