If You're Suspended from School, Can you Do the College Program?

Okay, this is not about me personally, but one of the CPs I've been talking to wants to know if you can still participate in the program if you get suspended from school, so can you? He's already accepted, paid, and everything, and this whole thing at school came up recently. Can he still do the program? Or will he have to back out?

It's pretty easy to get suspended from college -- grades that are not up to expectations several semesters in a row; too frequent absenses; behavioral problems....

You are usually required to attend a community college for x number of credits before you can be readmitted to your program...happens here in Michigan all the time.

What an interesting question though ! I would think that to be in a college-based program at WDW you would actually have to be actively enrolled in college...but...perhaps another CM would know that...

I would suppose the best bet would be for your friend to call the program immediately and inquire.

The answer is a big fat NO

you have to be in good achedemic standing with your university upon your "arival" to the program, not your acceptance date. As well as activly enroled . you have to provide transcripts to show this. I think your "friend" if out of luck here.

If your friend has already been accepted how would anyone know that he is no longer in school? When I was on the CP, I don't remember having to show any sort of proof that I was a student once I had arrived. I think your friend should just go, if they find out they might send him home and that would suck of course, but if they don't find out he'll have a great time. Personally I don't know how they would find out, maybe someone more familiar with how the program works could tell you how much contact there is between the college program officials and the schools. I doubt if the school would go to the trouble of informing Disney that he is no longer a student there and I find it hard to believe that Disney goes to the trouble of checking the background of every CP'er after they have arrived.

He actually called his recruiter today, I think, but I'm not sure what they told him. He was kind of freaking out and wasn't really making much sense when it came to the subject. I think he's going to find out tomorrow if he's been suspended or not. His college said that he could write an appeal to try and save himself from suspension, but they told him that suspension is definitely a possibility so...I guess he'll just have to hope for the best! Thanks you guys!

I don't know...I didn't have to provide any proof of grades or GPA to Disney and I've done a Spring Advantage and Summer Alumni program. And about the whole must be in good academic standing at time of arrival thing, that can't be true because you can go the semester after you graduate, so you have to be in college when you apply. It's a touchy subject I would assume.

My grades were never checked until after I was accepted. And the only reason I have to know that is career services called and told me Disney called and said I was doing the CP.

The exact same thing happened to me last semester, actually, and here I am on the college program! I brought my transcript just in case, but it was never checked. I e-mailed my contact person and let her know I would be reapplying to school. She thanked me for being honest and called my school's career center, which gave me the green light. Now I'm just nervously waiting to hear back from my school. I guess it depends on the reason for suspension. Mine was academic, so Disney didn't have to worry about behavioral problems or anything. I was specific as to the reasons I was suspended. It sounds like he can still do the program.

Dito, they checked my 'standing' right after I was accepted (6 months before i arrived @ WDW) and that was it.

I'm a Campus Rep.

I've had a student get accepted, turn his stuff in, and the drop all of his classes. My school told him he couldn't go, but he went anyways and has since completed two successful College Programs.

How in the world....

Pin Madness, how in the world did he do that? I would assume that your school doesn't have a Cooperative Education program or something...

Our school requires you to enroll in the Co-op before even applying for the CP. When Disney calls our school, they tell them that since we are enrolled in the program, we are classified as full-time students.

I was a Rep at a Community College when it happened and there wasn't a co-op program with my school.

In all actuality, unless a student is participating in the Program for college credit, I don't think that Disney cares what sort of academic standing students have. They need bodies to fill roles.

Hence the creation of the career start program.
