If you could create or expand a transportation network on property, what would it be?

My home park for many years was Disneyland, and I loved the fact that once you’re on property it’s super easy to get all over the resort. It’s a different situation in Florida obviously, but the burden of getting from one part of the Walt Disney World resort to an another creates headaches. I’m a big fan of the skyliner system and it got me thinking of even more ways to get around the property without having to climb into your car or crowd onto a bus to get from one area to another.

My wish? Bicycle paths. This is probably just a manifestation of my obsession with the Netherland’s bicycle infrastructure, but I like to take my bike whenever I’m able. I won’t kid myself, it’s not practical to bike from magic kingdom to Hollywood studios, but imagine well lit, wide, bicycle specific paths around the seven seas lagoon. Imagine being able to pedal your way to the food court at your hotel instead of walking. There’s applications where bicycles would work wonderfully around the property and it’s a shame that you’re dependent on using your feet when you could breeze on by with a bike.

I won’t pretend this will ever happen, there’s probably liability issues and logistical problems but I can dream. If you could create or expand a transportation system
on propety, what would you do?

even though its not on property, i wish metro would expand a line off the blue line that goes east to the convention center/disneyland/stadium

I would love it if WDW was more bicycle friendly. I even asked the person at the parking lot ticket booth a few weeks back when I was handing him my $25 parking fee for my SUV what they would charge someone if a person showed up on a bicycle. He briefly asked the other person in the booth and apparently neither one of them knew. However, he said bicycles probably would not be permitted since there was no place to leave them while inside the park.

A tram network would probably great, especially if it were grade separated and automated. If you want to decrease costs you can only grade separate it at Disney Springs/the main roadways to the parks, but then you'd need operators and end up with higher-capacity buses. Would either be cheaper than building out the monorails substantially?

Really what's needed is some major transfer station. Extend the Skyliner to the TTC and increase monorail frequency. It seems weird that we have disconnected systems for MK resorts, Epcot/HS resorts, and other resorts.

I think marni hinted the next major route would be an east/west connection? Possibly following buena vista blvd? I would also love if they connect pop/art-CBR-Riviera to Epcot through a canal system, which apparently was the idea before skyline. Would love a train from DAK to DAKL.

Not practical or affordable but I always wanted a four park monorail route. Realistically I know that is out of the question for WDW but am OK with the SkyLiner for DHS Epcot and monorail for MK Epcot. DAK needs something now.
This! All of this! I'd love to see, at the very least, an animal-friendly (quiet, low emissions) form of transportation (bike/cycle rickshaw paths, electric tram, or Skyliner-type vehicles) running between AK and the AKL resorts (the only deluxes without "special" transportation to one or more parks), or in an ideal world, between HS and AK as well.

I'm going with turning Boardwalk into a hub. There needs to be a connector to CSR, AKL, AK - and that could either be Skyliner, or maybe even some type of light rail. With that you connect 12 hotels - the only outliers being All Stars, POFQ/R, OKW, and SSR.

Once at Boardwalk you'd be able to take that connector to CSR, AK and AKL, - Skyliner to CBR, POP, Riviera, AoA, and DHS - Walk to EPCOT and the EPCOT resorts - Monorail to MK and the monorail resorts. Obviously you'd also need a walkway from Boardwalk to the EPCOT monorail station that doesn't necessitate you having to go into the park. The other thing I'd do is create a pathway from TTC to the WL and Contemp. You'd then be able to boat, monorail, and even walk to the MK from any MK resort.

My other favorite childhood vacation destination is Ocean City, NJ, and a big part of the reason has always been the bike friendliness of the town. Even visiting there as an adult, our car rarely leaves the parking space.

So, yes, I'd love this idea for Disney World. Would it ever happen? Probably not, because the current management wouldn't see a cost benefit to all the infrastructure that would need to be built. Also, they likely wouldn't want either the legal liability or giving guests the opportunity to have unmonitored access to so much of the property.

Give me one of these babies to jump on. Disney can set up rental sites of these at hover board stations across property. Takes up less room, doesnt require construction of expensive ride systems, doesnt take effort other than balancing, and can easily take it with you wherever you go on property.

Believe it or not, the future has arrived! I saw someone riding one of these around Lake Winnipessauke two months ago. Unlike the Back to the Future version, though, these obviously only work on water.

With the interconnected waterways at Disney World, this form of transportation wouldn't be completely out of the question.

Something convenient and cheap. Have multiple space elevators tethered to each resort, theme park, and water park. Take the space elevator up, space walk to the one you need, then take it down. Rinse, repeat. Except for Disney Springs. You take a bus there.

That certainly beats your trebuchet idea.

Along those lines, Universal will initiate park-to-park transportation between Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, via portkey. 😉

instead of a tram, if they had a super long omnimover system from the parking structure to the promenade. This is for Disneyland/CA
