If I could improve fantasmic,

I would put the tinkerbell flight plan technology from disneylands new fireworks show, remember, behind/over the mountain. Before the finale, tinkerbell can fly and swoop around the mountain before her wand gets really bright and illuminates the "pixie dust" lights on the mountain.

What would you do to improve this show? My main concerns is that it follows no story and doesnt really flow well, the bubble scene is extremely long and unexciting, and there is just too much junk footage being projected on the screens with nothing else going on, and it makes people space out. Floats of the villains during the nightmare part of the show and the shortening/replacement of some of the bubble scene and pocohontas scenes would help.

So what do you have in mind for fantasmic 2.0?

I'd have The Pirates of the Carribbean replace the Pocahontas sequence.

I'd use the floats from the Festival of the Lion King in the Jungle Segment

I'd take away the seemingly impotent and pointless villains like Cruella and Scar.

I'd put in a much larger SteamBoat Willie.

During the "Night on Bald Mountain" sequence, I'd have actors in glow in the dark skeleton costumes perform around the audience.

I'd squeeze in a segment based on "Topsy Turvy Day" and put before the bubbles segment.

I'd have Mickey on each live segment to show that he is travelling through his dream.

Disneyland's Fantasmic! actually uses the Mark Twain Riverboat for their show, as theirs is presented on the Rivers of America instead of a stadium like Disney-MGM's Fantasmic! Also, Disneyland's show has a Peter Pan segment on the Sailing Ship Columbia instead of the Pocahontas segment.

Yeah I know all about the California version, I love it but I donn't like how Mickey ends on top of a house instead of the mountain in Florida plus the Pink Elephants March is not as exciting as the Bubbles in the Orlando version. But The Mark Twain finale and the Jolly Roger stunt segment are far superior to the miniscule SteamBoat and over extended Pocahontas segment. And Anaheim has a more concentrated set of Villains.

Having the show around the Rivers of America gives the show a much different feel at DL. I don't know why but I just really like the DL version better. Probably alot of it is that I saw the show the first year that they did it and its been i've been watching it since I was a kid on home video. Then when I saw the WDW version it just didn't have the same feel to it. I still loved it and its still the best show ever but it wasn't quite the same as DL.

But the thing that just astounds me the most about the Disneyland version is that you would never know that any of the stuff was there when walking around the park during the day. All the lighting rigs come out of the ground and the Lighting/Fountain rigs submerge under the water during the day. Also you can actually walk around on the stage on Tom Sawyer Island. I remember when I first saw it, Tom Sawyer Island was closed because of the show and they were still working on making it where it could be open during the day. That was my first trip to Disneyland and i'll never forget it. :)

The Fantasmic Soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks i've ever bought. That finale gets me everytime.

The first "glimpse" of Fantasmic! was from a Disneyland video I accidentally got my hands on, i couldn't get enough of it and loved it so much. Many years later, MGM announced that they are getting Fantasmic! and I was so excited. To this day, that image of Mickey on top of the mountain is still the most powerful image of all the Disney shows even though i was terribly underwhelemed with Steamboat willie and the Pocahontas segment (the last part with the orchestral version of Colors of the WInd was just absolutely moving though, and it was a great transition towards the Princess medley)

The reason the one at disneyland is better has nothing to do with it being on the river. Sure, that does affect the way that the show is presented to you, but its the show that is so much better. Disneylands show is shorter, and flows so much better. Each scene comes in at a perfect time to change things up a bit and keep things fresh. It seems like they took a perfect show, improved the special effects and the climax scenes (dragon) and then threw in a bunch of random scenes to advertise the new movies that came out within the last couple years, whether or not it made sense. Strangely, alot of the stuff that I dont like about the mgm show are what I do like about it. I like how it has alot more characters and the animals rather than the snake in the jungle book/lion king part.

So, i think they should do away with all of the sidetrack parts of the nightmare show like the flight on the magic carpet because even if you like it you gotta admit its really sidetrack from the story. The snake scene should just start up right away, then the magic lamp, ect..

They should also have like 5 or six floats of the villains float by on the lake during the nighmare scene. disneylands fantasmic used to have ursula, but they got rid of it. If they had the staffing to do it, this could really speed things up during that part of the show.

I dont know what to do with the whole bubble thing, maybe shorten it. I still like the dancing elephants and pinochio better.

Pocohontas should be replaced by a pirates of the carribean part. I like that idea stitchcastle. Maybe the stage could be the fort or the cave with all the treasure in it, and a the black pearl could ride by in the same direction as steamboat willie. There could be a battle between the two, and about 2/3 of the way through the scene, they could somehow get off the boat and have a sword fight on the land, or back on the boat.

Anything else?

Replace Pocahantas with either the Peter Pan sequence or the never used 20K scene with the Nautilus coming in and being attacked by a giant squid with Captain Nemo attacking it with a harpoon and Mickey would be playing Toccata and Fugue on the organ on the island during the scene
