We have a couple of members of our party who are in their early 20's (22 and 23), however both still have their pre-21 State ID's/driver licenses. The ID's are not expired (both don't expire until sometime in 2014), they are just vertical instead of horizontal and say "Under 21 until _____" (their 21st birthday).

We have heard at some sporting events and concerts people were refused service when trying to order a beer or wine because their ID said Under 21 until on it...Does anyone know if Disney is the same way?

They would go get new ones...however our state now ships the actual ID to your home...and that can take up to a month...which is very close to our departure date.

Any advice?

I guess it would depend on the individual. I would hope that someone would have 2 connected brain cells to actually look at the birth date, but you never know. If they are able to get the new IDs before they go, it might be easier. They might have to convince the cast member to actually look at the date.

Thanks for all the info! you guys are great. This is what I was thinking...I couldn't believe people would request a second form of ID when I heard about it....but I supposed there are some people out there that wouldn't be able to read the actual D.O.B.

That's ridiculous. Can these people not look at a calendar and do some math? You shouldn't have any problem. I still had the vertical New Jersey driver's license on my first trip after my 21st birthday, and it was never questioned. The cast members see IDs from all 50 states and many, many countries. They look for the date, not the underage cheat sheet meant for local doormen.

I would hope that the server could look at the birthday and figure out if the person is of age or not. If it is a hassle to get a new id I wouldn't, it sounds as if these are legal ids. I would just point out the birthday to the server, and if they still refused service I would ask to see a manager. People should be able to read an id properly.

If they are 21 just have them go to DMV and get a new ID and all is well.

Not enough time.

There is no law that says if your ID says UNDER 21 and you have reached the age of 21 that you cannot be served alcohol.
The UNDER 21 ID's are issued so that barmen can instantly spot underage. However if you have reached 21 they are still legal ID as long as they are not expired.

Florida has the same drivers licenses where under 21 is vertical rather than horizontal. I'm sure the cast members are all familiar with these types of IDs and it's probably part of their training. I wouldn't worry about it.
