While in Playa Del Carmen Mexico our kids loved playing daily with a giant chess set. The board measured about 20 x 20, with the chess pieces around 3ft tall. A lot of families had fun doing this activity at all times of the day. Here's my imagineering idea.

Set up a bigger than life chess set with a Alice in Wonderland theme. I was thinking of maybe a deluxe resort for the setting. The Grand Floridian would be a nice place. You could set up times to play with the characters and maybe make it a profitable area. When the characters aren't around you still could rent out the chessboard to families. I really think this could be a lot of fun for the whole family. Anybody have any thoughts about this? You could use Alice with the Madhatter or Queen of hearts with some other character.

I really do think that The Wonderland theme is very underused, ti is a great theme and story and shoudl really be used more places. That being said I think your idea would be a great way to bring the story to the audeince.

As far as profitablity goes I am not sure how many families woudl spend money to play a giant chess set, pehapse you could add several other Wonderland themed activities, along with a Very happy unbirthday party meal and make it sort of a new dinning expereince, you could still keep it at GF as it has sort of an English feel to it. Nightly guests woudl be required to make reservations and then they would come and participate in the activites of their choice(have many of these giant chess peices, and other things for guests to do) then after an aloted amount of time for recreation, they enter a dinning hall made to look like the Tea Party, charachters could put on a "unbirthday party show" and the chrachters from wonderland coudl come around and visit you while you eat aswell.

Where did you do this in Playa del Carmen? I was there two summers ago and might go back in the spring.

We did this at the Allegro resort in Playa Del Carmen. I don't play chess but my kids do. I ended up watching them for over an hour and started to pick up the basics of chess.

I really like the ideas for the unbirthday and such. It would be neat to see what other ideas could be brought out for this.
