Idea - Contemporary Resort Star Wars makeover

the contemporary has always struck me as the resort which no one really knows how to deal with. Like tomorrowland the architecture hasn't always dated well (I love it but I like mid century modern and brutalism) and every now and then it's gets a makeover which fixes things for a time but always dates too fast and puts things back to square one.

With Star Wars coming could this be the way to bring the resort back up to scratch as a longer solution. To me the architecture could easily be rethemed to Star Wars with suitable Star Wars themed restaurants and shopping- floors and rooms could be themed to different planets in the Star Wars universe. Disney would get something new to market and could up the room prices and fans get a new reason to visit Florida over Disneyland

What does everyone think? Good idea or sacrilege to one of the last parts of the vacation kingdom of the world?

I wouldn't like the idea myself. I feel those that stay in the Deluxe Resorts wouldn't want that type of over the top theming. Disney tends to keep the over the top theming to the Value & Moderate resorts. I don't think the majority of guests would pay $500+ a night to be surrounded in a Star Wars environment.

The Contemporary is considered a convention hotel. WDW removed almost all Disney theming from the hotel years ago to cater to the "Adult Convention Goer". I once remarked to the greeter in the lobby at check in, that after the changes, the lobby looked like any other high end Hyatt. His response was " Thank you. That's the look they wanted."

I would advocate for restoring the Contemporary to something that evokes, but doesn't imitate the original design. Use muted earth tones - orange, rose, gold, avocado, turquoise. But that's just me loving on the late mid-century modern styling....

Every time I walk around the Contemporary, the lack of unity just irritate me. Around the escalators from the lobby to the concourse, it's just meh. Reminds me of the very neutral (BEIGE) mid-2000's conference hotels that you see in every city. The tile floors on the lobby level are lovely with the wood accents. But the carpets around the monorail are too bright and early 90's ish. It seems very piecemeal.

So I would propose a unifying palette in the same earth tones throughout the hotel.

I have to admit I've started collecting 70's Contemporary resort Disneyana.....

I see it being a HUGE negative to Disney's Deluxe Resort strategy especially on the Monorail loop. The Deluxe resorts are themed to high end vacation destinations, not IP's. I could see a new Moderate, which I think WDW is in need of, located within viewing distance to the Star Wars expansion of the studios. But I also see them doing a space themed resort, with upgraded Star Wars rooms, like the royal guest rooms at Port Orleans and the pirate rooms at Caribbean Beach. I think they most you could hope for at the Contemporary is if WDW decided to do Signature Suites like the DL Hotel.
