iBook & Internet Access at WL

I'm leaving on Friday for ten fabulous days at the Wilderness Lodge. I've decided to bring my iBook along to write my trip report since writing it by hand gets boring and I forget mostly everything by the time I get home if I don't write it down. It would be an added bonus to be able to go on the internet once or twice to check my email and pay a couple of bills. I've looked at all of the threads concerning internet usage at WDW and also the internet access page on the main site. But I guess I'm still confused.

I have an (Apple) iBook. It's got an AirPort card. My set-up at home is a DSL router which plugs into my AirPort base station via ethernet cable, and the base station broadcasts the DSL to my iBook wirelessly. I can also plug the ethernet cable directly into my iBook if I wanted to. So what do I need to bring to WDW with me? The ethernet cord? And that plugs into an ethernet jack somewhere in the room? And then I have internet? I'm not bringing my base station with me, so I'd just plug the ethernet cord right into my iBook. Am I correct with how this works? I just don't want any surprises when I get down there. And again I'm staying at the Wilderness Lodge (not the villas).

Thanks in advance for your help.

The other option would be to type up your report off-line and then log on and cut and paste...

I hate when I get disconnected RIGHT BEFORE I'm finished typing. :hammer: I agree with typing it in a word processor first, not only do you have less of a risk of loosing your work, you can also format it and use spell check!!

If you log on as late as possible one night, the next night you can log in earlier and still be in your 24-hour day. In a 7-night stay I was only billed for three $9.95 days.

Thanks for the tip!!! I'll have to try it out!

I posted almost-daily trip report segments while we were there. The only thing I would suggest is get a program that keeps your internet connection live while you're typing your report... I had my first day all typed up and ready, but when I clicked "Submit", the connection had timed out. By the time I figured out what had happened I'd lost everything I'd typed.

I think I'm a little confused by this. Why did the connection time-out? Was your 24 hour period over, or did the internet just quit because you weren't browsing?

My iBook would probably lose the connection if I closed the lid and let it go to sleep (that's what happens at home). But when I open it up, it should re-connect, if I still have hours left, right? I won't be leaving my iBook out and open while I'm in the parks, so letting it go to sleep is a necessity.

You'll be fine, with a 24 hour pass your room is allowed to get internet acess for 24 hours, heck, even on multiple computers!
