Hi all! I came looking for more news on the 'big announcement' today (Dec 28), and joined for the witty banter and awesome fanatics. My husband and 2 kids do not care for Disney the way I do, they prefer to be up in Maine in a cabin on a lake. Bah!!! None of my friends care to chat Disney either, so I am really happy to have found a home here.
I live in CT and that is just way too far away from WDW for me!
Dec 1991 I first experienced WDW at 17, and fell in love. (My dad, who lives in Lakeland, flew me and my bros/sister down for Christmas week. I had no idea the crowds were not always like that! Even with it so busy, I just loved it.) If I had known about the college work program I would have chose that over going into the US Navy, but happy to have served my country in any case. I was stationed in Hong Kong in 1997-98, and had a season pass to Ocean Park, the closest theme park to Disney they offered. (They announced Hong Kong Disney was to be built the month after I left in Aug 98!! What?!?!?) Years later (2/05) I met several cast members in WDW who were there training for the HK opening, and tried to remember my Cantonese to greet them.
I almost went to DL when I was getting out of the Navy in San Diago, but I was 3 months preggers. Still haven't been there!
In 2000 I had planned a trip for my husband, daughter and I to go, but one week before we were to leave we had to cancel because my hubby's grandfather was very sick, and sure enough he passed away the week we would have been gone, so it wasn't meant for us to go then. I am glad we stayed home. However, it was my 1st time trying to plan a Disney trip, and I realized how crazy and extensive the planning could be.
Feb 2005 we went for my 2nd time. My son was 10 months old and daughter 6 yrs. It wasn't as hard as imagined with an infant, since we stayed at the Polynesian and the Monorail was handy-Dandy for stroller ease. But boy it was cold! We only went for a couple days, my husband was there to write an article on their tennis courts.
Oct 2008 was trip #3, and I was just starting to get the hang of things. We stayed at theBoardwalk, and it was a great location!
Apr 2011 trip #4, stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. The geyser was in rehab, but the pool and lobby were lovely.
Apr 2012 trip #5, FAMILY REUNION! Stayed at Coronado Springs. 12 people in all. I had researching down by this point and was so proud to be the planner for everyone. I will never forget the day we got SIX fast passes in one day at MK - a new feat for me!
? 2013 trip #6 I will be taking my 8th grade Girl Scout troop, not sure the dates yet. They have a great program (out of the many offered) we chose -
I REALLY want to visit DL during Halloween time, because I would love to experience the Haunted Mansion done up Nightmare Before Christmas style. WOW
Looking forward to staying sometime at AKL, BCR, and ultimately the Cinderella Suite inside the Castle!
I love listening to Disney radio stations.
Fav Animated Disney movies:
Nightmare Before Christmas
Beauty & the Beast
Aladdin
Nemo
( is up with Mars need Moms, when the mom give the helmet to her kid then proceeds to die (almost) - horrid crap!)
Oh and my dad was a cast member for a few years. Since he was an Electrician for years I thought oh wow he must have some cool job maintaining the animatronics or lights or whatever, come to find out he worked a turkey leg and then a popcorn cart! Well, he was retired and just working part-time, but hey that's what he wanted to do. He said he had a blast talking to people all day long, and getting to discover the corridors and other behind the scenes things.
Well it has been a fun trip down memory lane remembering my past trips, thanks for reading and look forward to reading your posts on the boards!

Disney Leadership Strategies | Disney Youth Education Series
http://www.disneyyouth.com - they are really excited to go! (Some have never been, and I am honored to introduce them to the most magical place I know of on earth) I am teaching them how to plan, and I say if you can plan and navigate Disney World, you can plan and navigate anywhere! lolI REALLY want to visit DL during Halloween time, because I would love to experience the Haunted Mansion done up Nightmare Before Christmas style.
