We've driven down there our last 2 trips. July 2002 (for our honeymoon), we did NJ to Jacksonville, then drove the last leg early the next morning. Last summer (june 2003), we drove straight down. We left at 3am and pulled into the All-Stars at around 9PM, 18 hours.
Also, much like tigs mom, the drive is part of the vacation. It's quite an experience sitting in a car for 3/4 of a day.

I know that when we travel by car we try and hit a few 'attractions' along the way. Last year going down to Virginia Beach, we stopped at Monticello, Richmond (Civil War sites) and took in a couple of days at Paramount's Kings Dominion.
For our trip in November, we are planning on seeing a few sites around Knoxville (Gatlinburg) and Atlanta (Coke Museum) . . . time allowing of course.
