I need help in selecting a digital camera. I have been looking around for a month or two now and the options are becoming a little overwhelming but I have got it narrowed down to 1 final feature. I would like a 10X optical zoom and from what I can tell image stabilization is pretty much a must if you are not using a tripod but I haven been able to find any reliable comparison information on which cameras have IS and which one don’t. Normally c/net is a pretty good resource for technical info on electronics but they seem to almost completely ignore the IS feature in their digital camera section. Any help or reference material would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there, I have canon digital elf. I love it, but it doens't sound like the camera for you. The flash is weaker then I would like (and you can't force it) and the zoom is only 2 times. However I found that doesn't hinder me at all, the maga pixels are so good I just crop and zoom at home on the computer and they turn out great.

So what is reason you want such a intense zoom? Do you really like taking senery shots from far away?

Good luck, before you buy read reviews of it. That really helps alot. :)

I have owned and used Canon digital cameras and IMO are the best out there. They have cameras for each level and their entry level is not real expensive, but you get great pictures. Most of the pictures in my album were made with a G2 (about 4 years old) and it's still doing great.

This is one instance where I would say to wait. the higher MP is worth a month's wait and the difference between an ok 8x10 print and a great 8x10 print.

The S1 IS is what I am leaning towards or possibly its successor the S2 IS due out next month with a 12X zoom and 5MP.
let me know if you want samples

I would say the MP is enough...depending on what you want to shoot. and the zoom is awesome.

That is what I was thinking as well. The S2 is about $150 more than the S1 but I would much rather pay a little more and get something I’m really happy with.

I just bought the S1 and love it... it is the next generation of the Pro 90 which is what I taken 5000+ pictures with. I figured as soon as I bought another camera they would release one better...

I love the S1 because the zoom is super fast, it powers on in 2-3 seconds and using AA Batteries.

That always seems to be the way things go especially when technology is involved. I’ll probably continue using my 35mm Olympus SLR until my first trip after the summer blackout on my seasonal passes lifts. By then the SL2 will be out for a little while and hopefully the price will drop a little.
