I need computer help. I know someone here can help me, so here goes...

I am looking to get some new RAM for my computer. My computer isn't too old, I got it in September 2001. It has 128 MB of RAM, and frankly, I want more.

Now, I know there are all sorts and certian kinds for certian computers and all, but here is my question. Do I need a really huge processor to get alot of RAM, or can my 2001 Pentium 4 (I don't know the exact kind I have at the moment) support the big RAM? Also, does adding more RAM take up hard drive space? And finally, can I do it myself or should someone "professional" do it?

Thanks, thanks, thanks so much!

Max memory size is more of a function of your motherboard than the CPU (however there is a max size of RAM that can be addressed by a specific CPU). Your Pentium 4 would support most likely at least 512MB, probabay more.

RAM doesnt require any disk space.

A good resource and place to buy is www.crucial.com
Including a selector for loads of different systems to make sure you get the right kind. :)

Also, it depends upon your OS. If you are using Windows ME or 98, then you are limited to 512MB. Windows XP will support 1 G (and higher) of RAM with no problem.

And yes, you can install the RAM yourself. You should check with your computer maker on the Internet and check their knowledge base for specific instructions concerning your particular computer model.

Adding more RAM does not take up any hard drive space. As a matter of fact, more RAM will enable you to get some hard drive space back!:D
