Hi All and welcome to my first Trip Report! My name is Goaliegirl16 and I will be showing you some of the details of our upcoming trip to WDW this July 30 to August 11. These days I am taking my second stab at an undergraduate degree in History and Political Science and I teach hockey to 3 to 6 year olds. I am a former Cast Member at WDW. I was there from 1997-2001 and mainly worked in the parking lot at (what was then known as MGM). I loved it there but have not had the chance to return until now.
What is the special occasion you might ask? Why now? Well, good question but kind of a long story. (Do you have a snack? Something to drink? Good.) Please take small children by the hand and move all the way across the car to make room for additional guests, keep hands and arms inside the car at times while in motion and please stand clear of the doors, the story will be departing momentarily.
About 4 years ago I stopped by my local hockey shop to pick up something or other and found a new face in the shop. This guy seemed to be in the shop every time I stopped by. A couple of months went by and the hockey season was well underway. Some crucial information here. When you are a female type in the hockey world many times you are surrounded by guys. On the face of it that sounds good but in practice many of the guys cease to view you as female and treat you as one of the guys. This explains how, around Thanksgiving, I accidentally went on a date. Mr Goalie asked me to go to a local minor league hockey game and I said yes. Half way through the evening we realized that this was in fact a date and not two friends catching a game and having a sandwich. And after several years, much fun, Mr Goalie’s deployment to Afghanistan, some trying times, and some more fun we find ourselves in Chicago on Spring Break.
We spent the day at the Museum of Science and Industry and then went to a Blackhawks Game that night. After a wonderful day in which I got 4 Mold-a-ramas (one of my favorite things ever, seriously, look them up) and got to see my beloved Blackhawks best St Louis in overtime Mr. Goalie proposed. And I said yes. Happily.
Discussions of wedding planning started immediately. You see my youngest sister was engaged just a couple of months before us, in fact the day that Mr Goalie returned from Afghanistan. This immediately made me worry. I really wasn’t sure that my parents could swing two weddings in one year and really started to worry about how long we should wait as my family operates under a first come first served system and Sister #2 got there first. Thankfully my parents had a plan in place should all 3 sisters decide to get engaged at one time. They sat Mr Goalie and I down and explained that we had a budget and it was firm but whatever we decided to do with that budget was our decision. If we went to the Court House that day we could keep it all but if we went totally over the top and the budget got out of hand that the First Bank of Mom and Pop was closed. So let the planning begin.
The first thing we tackled was a rough headcount and that is where I started to get nervous. After we listed all the relatives we were over 300 people. That is just relatives. After searching for a location for a ceremony (as Mr Goalie and I were raised Catholic but are far from practicing) and a location for a reception I was in tears. I couldn’t figure out how to do it. It was all too much. And that was when my friends began a chorus of “destination wedding”. And that was when I started joking that we should just run off to Disney World and do it all there.
I should also add that Mom and Pop also provided us with the gift of a honeymoon. Once again we were provided with a budget and told we could do whatever we wanted. Mr Goalie and I agreed right away that Disney World was the answer.
After several days of fretting and crying Mr Goalie sat me down and said that he wanted to get married at WDW. We could have a ceremony with our family and a few close friends and have a nice reception when we get home. After calling both sets of parents and getting the OK we contacted Disney Fairytale Weddings and we were off.
On August we will have an Escape Wedding with 18 guests at the Wedding Pavilion at the Grand Floridan with a dessert party at Epcot later that evening.
Stay tuned for the cast of characters and the Amazing Eight Page Master Schedule of Awesome Organization tm.
