Does anyone know how long Hyperspace Mountain will be up and running? I checked the Disneyland App once last week and once this week and noticed it's still operating. I thought it was only for Star Wars nights but lol silly me.

Sorry if I missed this in an earlier discussion.

EDIT 5/21
Thanks to this article, we now know when they are planning on switching back to regular Space Mountain.

https://ohmy.disney.com/parks/2018/05/21/hyperspace-mountain-walt-disney-imagineer-interview/

Flash forward. Strong is now an Executive Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering, most recently leading the transformation of Space Mountain into Hyperspace Mountain for Season of the Force in 2016, as well as similar transformations in Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Most recently,Hyperspace Mountain was brought back to Disneyland Resort for a limited time (and will remain until June 3!). We got the chance to talk to Brent about what it’s like to make this stellar transformation to one of the most iconic Disney Parks attractions of all time.

I heard through the end of the month and that's great news as I'm going tomorrow.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I have a feeling it'll be here until September when it switches over to Ghost Galaxy. Though the attraction calendar only shows it goes up to June 3rd.

I was on it yesterday and it felt like they added more stuff (more lights, more projections, etc) to it this year, can anyone confirm? I have to say, having just been on regular Space Mountain last week and Hyper Space Mountain this week, I've gotta give to the edge to HSM. They really make great use of all the different on-ride effects with that overlay, it's a shame none of it gets used in its regular operational mode.

But June 3rd is as official as official gets? Thanks!

Agreed. I don't know if they added new stuff, but the fact that they refuse to fix the star tunnel says something to me. They could easily add the on ride effects such as lasers to be implemented with normal Space Mountain.

Say, why not have the beams all light up at once just before the "big" drop and act as if you are gaining speed on the rocket by turning on the boosters? Space Mountain could be improved with these little things but they wont do it.

Just know though that it doesn't show regular Space Mountain on June 4th. It shows no schedule, but doesn't list it as being closed for Refurb. So basically it has no schedule from June 4th to June 20th (end of current attraction schedule). I highly doubt they'd shutdown Space Mountain on June 4th with Pirates already down.

It might not need a shutdown. A member on another board said that a refurb after 2 years of Hyperspace made it so they can switch between the two with ease. The only thing i'd be concerned with is getting that physical "Hyperspace Mountain" sign off near the entrance, and I can't see that being much work other then sending in a guy with a screwdriver (figuratively speaking).

They didn't have Space Mountain closed before they put Hyperspace back in correct?

Yeah... they can switch it pretty much overnight now. Like I said, I was there last Wednesday and it was still normal Space Mountain. By Sunday it was already HSM and I don't think it closed at all before the change.

It can switch, minus the sign, overnight. I think the sign takes like two days.

However if regular SM was coming back they'd have it back on the calendar. So given that basically all of June shows SM/HSM as not scheduled I don't know if that makes the switch back to SM more likely than HSM staying. Plus given that Solo opens the weekend before, I think they'd keep HSM open for longer than a week after opening of a SW movie.

My brain hurts from too much Star Wars. I think it makes sense to change it back in June, even if it's a week after Solo opens. I mean even I could easily justify it staying open throughout the month of May, given May the 4th, two star wars nights and a star wars movie. But I hope it doesn't go on through Summertime.

My bet is it stays open until Halloween time.
I'm betting the same thing.

No Space Mountain and no Pirates of the Caribbean make 1LE McQueen something something..

But seriously if it's going to be going on that long might as well advertise it unless they purposefully keep sealed to encourage a sense of urgency in out of state visitors.

I'm trying to comprehend why there are so many overlays for Space Mountain. Arguably the most popular ride in the park doesn't need help from Ghost Galaxy, Hyperspace, or Rockin'.

I mean the only other rides in the park with overlays (1 overlay at that) are what.. IASW and HM?

Imagineers have their favorite rides. That is why they like to mess with them with their own touches. Hense the reason Pirates and HM keeps getting "plussed". Space Mountain has the built in tech to change the visuals easily so it's easy for them to do something cheap. However, why they don't use that tech on the regular version is beyond me.

It allows them to make the seasonal versions offer something different, to give a different experience.
