To my knowledge it only happened twice. (Floyd 1999 and Charlie 2004) and for the most parks the parks closed and Ft Wilderness was evacuated about a day prior to prepare. Both. remained closed until the storms passed. Once the storms passed, damage assessments were done, and the parks reopened the day after the storm.

We were there in 2004 staying in CBR, parks closed early the day before it hit which allowed us to stock up on games and food. The hurricane passed through the night and by the time we woke it was just rain and wind, port royale opened back up around 6pm with the cms that stayed overnight. By the next day all was clear and we were back in the park, the only damage I saw was a tree uprooted.

Its interesting to hear these stories, when do they decide to close the parks and do they do anything to batter down the hatches???

I was at WDW during tropical storm Fay. The day tropical Storm Fay hit, my flight was delayed. I found out ahead of time and I was able to stay on Disney grounds for an extra day.

The parks were open during tropical storm Fay, but there was no parade or Fireworks if I remembered correctly since I was at the Magic Kingdom. It was not the busy at Magic Kingdom and the waiting times were very good for the attractions that were open.

We were there too! We chilled in the bar and ordered pizza to our room, we actually had a blast :D

Heading for the great escape.
In 2004 the AK didnt open the day after as there wasnt sufficient CMs , not surprising given the damage in some places. On the run up to the storm Disney were very organised and handed out info sheets and torches. Some of the guests hit the shops and prepared to hole up for a nuclear winter rather than just one night. I have nothing but praise for the CMs who stayed on duty t look after the guests, especially as their own homes and families were facing the storm too.
I stayed on the balcony of WL enjoying the show and a few hello cheekies, untill bits of the fascia started to get airborne.

We were there during the '04 storm at Contempo Tower. My thoughts fall parallel to yours on the CMs. It was comical watching people stock up on water, snacks, etc from the gift shop and QS down stairs. People really thought that there would be no food available to guests in the hotel in case the storm was the worst on record.

We just missed the one in 2004. We circled the airport the last hour it was closed, waiting for it to re-open. We didn't need FastPass for any attractions the next week - a lot of guests had cancelled or delayed their vacations due to the storm.

I was at CBR during hurricane Frances in 2004. We were locked up in our room for 24 hours, playing Disney Monopoly and eating Doritos >_<

Comtempo staff was keeping people away from the concourse windows but you could still see through them good. Between there and the room balcony I was blown away by nature's fury.

I was there for Fay...and the storm never seemed to end....The rain just seemed to circle around Orlando and come back again and again....

But everything at WDW was very organized. I remember the CMs at the parks handing out the attraction time sheets with information saying the parks could close at a moments notice due to the impending storm and that we should all consider taking precautions.

It was never a horrible storm...just rain, rain, more rain, and then when it slowed down a bit, more rain. Some wind, but the wind brought more rain. Did I mention there was a lot of rain???

We were at the airport during fay and managed to take off just before it hit, but it was touch and go as to whether we could go home so we never saw how bad it got. Out of the 3 times we have been to wdw we have had a hurricane and tropical storm, think somebody is trying to tell us something!
