Hi there,

This is my first time posting on this message board, and I have to say that this is really the best site on wdw.
I was wondering if anyone knew if the hurricane would still be around during sept. 25 to oct. 4. THis is when I am going to wdw.
I pray to god it doesn't hit when I am there, nor do I want it to hit anyone else.
So, do you think it will have kind of passed by then, and do you think that it will cause a lot of rain during that time?

The weather channel website said that the weather for orlando, florida was pretty good right now.

Help me out, please!

You'll be fine at Disney. It is supposed to reach landfall by the end of this coming week far north of Florida. At least, that's what they're saying as of an hour ago. It's coming (supposedly) anywhere between the carolinas and where I live in CT...:(

I concur with the other posts here, Isabel will be an Atlantic memory by the 25th. Whoever gets hit by it will still be in agony, sadly. But this is the most active time in the tropics, and a tropical depression can form in a matter of hours and can strengthen to a tropical storm just as fast as it popped up!

Speaking of Isabel, I just talked to a news director up in the Washington DC area begging for help on what to do covering this storm. Hurricanes don't normally hit that area, so I'm not suprised they're going to be under-prepared, but I'm really quite worried what may happen if it does hit that area. :(

To FutureCEO,
I never meant it like that. When I said help me out, I meant in terms of advice on what others out there thought about the weather and hurricane. I don't live out on the east coast, and I am not saying that everyone who replied does, so I just wanted to know what others thought. Sorry.

Also, how do you put the little pictures underneath your user name on the forums?

Don't worry...we didn't take it that way. You will find that some people have odd senses of humor here.To add an avatar go to
"user cp" at the top of the page then "edit options". Avatars are at the bottom. When you are more comfortable you can try a custom one.

well if you live in a bad spot of the mid east coast you probally will get evacutated. I think that it is to make landfall on friday and thats the 19th so you should be fine. Have a great time

The park is still open no matter what anyway. We have been during a huricane about 6 or 7 years ago. We were more worried about our flight being canceled.

I think the park has only closed twice ever. Once for 9/11 and I think once for weather, but the second one might not be true. Someone told me that.

WDW has only been closed twice. The first time was in September of 1999 when Hurricane Floyd was threatening to hit. It turned at the last minute only dumping rain and bringing lots of wind. They actually managed to get the Animal Kingdom open the next day around noon only for resort guests. The second time was on September 11th. They will close the parks if a hurricane severely threatens the area.

Actually, WDW parks did close several years ago for the last big hurricane that came over Central Florida. I remember reading that they had evacuated campers from Fort Wilderness and provided shelter throughout the property, and in some cases in the hotel lobby, the articles said. The resort was largely full, as I remember, but the parks were closed. I remembered picturing many, many people in the hotel public areas.

I also remember that several other areas around Florida were devasted, and Disney donated mattresses to shelters or people around the area.

I think this was about three or four years ago, but I am not sure.

You should be fine by the 25th, though. I, on the other hand, need to start getting some emergency stuff. Richmond is directly in the current projected path!

One other suggestion. Bring a poncho, don't buy one in the park. We bought them a few years ago, they are nice and not expensive. But I found a problem with them which now that I have a daughter I think is a BIG problem.

My wife and I were at WDW in the mid-90's during the tail end of a huricane. The rain was coming down so hard that as we were walking through Adventureland the water was up to our ankles. There were CMs standing at all the drains trying to keep the leaves out of them so the water would flow quicker, it was bad.

Anyway, it was so wet that one of my sandles was so waterloged it flew off. I bent over and put it back on and I looked up and realized I could not find my wife. The reason I could not find her was every single freakin person in the park was wearing a yellow poncho with Mickey on the back. With my wife being an adult it was not so scary as much cr*p, how will I find her now. But with a child, I think I would have a heart attack.

Just my 2 cents, but I think it is a good 2 cents.
