18 September 2002: Studios Entertainment Changes

"Hunchback of Notre Dame - A Musical Adventure" will have it's very last performance on Sept. 28, 2002.

"Beauty and the Beast - Live on Stage" will return to a 7-day show schedule.

There we go again. Disney is taking away something and doesn't give us something back. Hunchback of Notre Dame is imho the best life stage show in the most crapy place. If they would put it in a real theater I would pay good money to see it. The story, songs, music and acting are the best there is. I love that show!
Why couldn't they kill the sugersweet Beauty and the Beast show? (ok I know you all love that one but it's just my little opinion). Guess I'm not going to buy my anual pass next year just to let them know how I feel...:(

If that is true...I'm going to go there to see it. I sure would love to have a prop.

Man,...what is that pre show juggler going to do? ( Is his name Matt?)

Bet live show in the all the parks...they really sing...no lip synching.

When I read that Hunchback was being discontinued, I was really upset. Ever since it opened it was a must see for my family, I haven't told my rents yet, but when I do they will be most disappointed. It was their favorite thing about MGM. I really love the juggler. The powers that be need to find another place to put him because that was one preshow that I found to be fresh & exciting each time I saw it.

You know, 5 years ago I would have thought that.

Now I'm not so sure................

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't shows like this only go on for a specified amount of time? Now as good as the show was, I assume the actors in it were planning to be out of it a lot sooner, at least after hearing that the show went on longer than expected. I have a feeling it will be the same way with Festival of the Lion King at AK. IOW, I dont think Disney "booted them out", I think their contract just expired, and the actors wanted to move on.

Hello 10021982, you talked to Disney. Did they say anything about a replacement?
I would love to see the last show but I won't be in the States untill December :( Keep your camera's rolling!

What a shame Disney doesn't follow the Universal Sudios way. They gave King Kong a very nice farewell and they prommis they'll put a nice ride back into it's place. Give every passholder an invitation, a funny hat and a pin and let them give the performers a standing ovation, flowers and foto opertunities. It isn't that dificult to do something special for your passholders.:king:

Although I like the show, I'm not that disappointed it's going because I'm starting to feel like Disney substitutes stage shows and other live entertainment for the more traditional audio-animatronic attractions. If this is actually true, my guess is it would be because

1. They're cheaper
2. If it isn't very good the first time, they're easier to modify/change than AA stuff.

I hope they don't replace it w/ another show.

It's a great show. But I suppose it couldn't go on forever, right?

If I could be there for the last show, I certainly would, but we won't be there until december.

Guess we'll have to keep all those little bell shaped pieces of confetti so we have something to remember the show by.

I don't think that anyone should be complaining. After all the announcements that were made yesterday this should be nothing. So a little bad news with all the good stuff we heard isn't that bad.

Truthfully I think the show is out of date. The movie was made a while back and a lot of kids (and adults) won't know of it soon enough. Let them put something in that is up to date.

Forget the Lilo and Stitch "meet and greet" area...they would take up too much room.

Cut them completely out....and it will leave ever MORE room the merchandizing support...Yeah,..I'm all for THAT!!!

CT ... LOL

Let me ask you guys a question...

Would you rather have the Hunchback show or...

Early Entry (No more character caravan), Epcot Improvements, Animal Kingdom Imporvements, and more MK and Epcot characters (everyone complains Epcot doesn't have enough characters).

I don't know but the improvements sound a lot better to have then the Hunchback show. Take what you are given and be happy. With the bad news we have heard out of Disney in the past year we are lucky they are not cancelling the show and not changing anything else. I would be happy not upset.

Wow...I completely disagree.... The actors in shows like Hunchback and Festival are Equity actors, meaning they are part of the actor's union. They get paid pretty well (err...realative to their peers vs. the other theme-park workers), and I think ~that~ is part of the reason they are doing away with many of the stage shows lately. (that's the reason they gave us for Doug, anyway).

Also, while you're entitled to your opinion, you have to realize that not everyone thinks that the stage shows are a cheap replacement for animatronics. AAs do the same thing over and over (and over and over...). I love to ride Spaceship Earth, but I ~KNOW~ exactly what's going to happen every time. Live stage shows, on the other hand, can be different every time you see them. I think there was a slight change in cast almost every time I saw Doug Live!, and even when everyone's the same, just the fact that it is live means there will be differences. Someone misses a cue, drops something, they rework the blocking or choreography, etc...No two shows are EXACTLY the same, which is the beauty of theater. Also, we EXPECT AAs to do the same job over and over (they are machines), but I give HUMANS a lot more credit it that regard...

Bleah..it's late, and I'm tired, so I'm not expressing this as well as I could... I am all for innovation, but I have a cold, empty feeling in my heart telling me not to expect anything new there any time soon. Hunchback's stage will go dark on the 28th, and STAY dark for quite a while...:(

Maybe they can put Hunchback into the France theatre in Epcot. The movie is getting (very, very old). It'll give Epcot more caracters. It's a great change of all the movies in the pavilions and I'll have my Hunchback back. Hunchback was more of a succes in Europe than in the US. I guess we have a more artistic tast and can cope with a more adult thema
OK, start flaming me :D
