Hunchback Final Show Review!!!

Just go back form the last show.

Who else was there?

It was AMAZING. The place was ROCKING!! The performances were above beyond any I have seen before.

What do you guys think? It was like a Hunchback show on steroids!!

I thought the dude that played Clopan was particularly "on" tonight. Dude's lines were sung very clearly, extra tight, perfectly on key and with more dynamics than I have ever heard from that guy before.

He did a great job of switching from chest voice to falseto and back again and again and so forth. He normally does this soemewhat casually, but tonight he was a madman with it. Fantastic job bro. EXTREMELY animated vocal stunts.

Esmarelda's actress' "outcast" rendition was also the best I have heard to date. SUPER passionette dynamic singing. As good as you will see on broadway. Very well delivered indeed.

I have a nice video of everything. Will post the clips on Sunday or Monday.

Outrageous performance,.....Super WILD crowd.

I think that even Matt the juggler was floored at the response/

We ALL gave him a long standing ovation the second he trotted onto the stage.

I'm tired. More later....

Shame I missed you... I was there too.

I have to agree, absolutely incredible show. It was great to see the crowd jump to its feet everytime a character walked on stage the first time for the show.

All of the cast delivered the performance of a lifetime. Mad props to Esmerelda for fighting back the tears you could hear coming on that last note of 'Outcast".

Everybody WAS on. It was amazing. This will be one of the most bittersweet memories I will ever have.

And I got an Ace of Hearts.

And, has I wiped the tears from my eyes, the friend who had never seen the show I brought with me asked, 'Now why are they getting rid of this?'. When a show has a guest asking that... you know you are making a mistake.

But, since I saw the trucks leaving with the props immediately after the show as I rode the Backlot Tour to calm myself, I know I can do nothing.

But I don't care...

THREE CHEERS FOR THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME!!!

You will be missed...

Son of a...

*sigh*

bye bye Hunchback...

We'll...my goals upon my return to WDW were to learn Hunchback and Festival...

guess I can focus on just one now huh :O)

Bravo Cast and Crew of Hunchback...you brought that show to life everyday. Steve Lacey you rocked everyones world.

OK so it was the last show and it was special.
But was it special because it was the last show and it was to go out on a high, OR was it special because it was done better and differently ?

If it can be done to such a rousing reception why can't the performances be like this every time ? I've seen the show a couple of times and have to admit that I'm no great fan - but if its so good why is it being axed ?

People like you don't understand... the show was magic for 6 1/2 wonderful years. It had a cult following of sorts. The final show every cast member had been talking with their fans all day.. they watched us cry from our seats during "Out There". I have made some of the best friends of my life through this show. The cast was amazing because they knew they were surrounded by people that loved them. I finally did all the crazy things I always wanted to do. Brought books for the "Quasimodos" and had hundreds of fans sign them, held up posters, threw my own homemade confetti, got pictures with the cast in and out of costume, stood on my seat to give a standing ovation, and was even allowed to give a personal message on camera for the cast's video. I did everything I ever wanted, and it still doesn't make it any easier to accept that it is gone.

After the last show a group of the friends I had made were gathered on a set of stairs on New York street crying. People were taking pictures of us.. then joining us. By the end there we were 30 people, some complete strangers, crying together. You can't understand what this meant to me, and I'm not alone.

Three Cheers for HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME

... the best show Disney ever had :king:

We have seen the show twice on trips, and it remains my daughter's single most favorite thing at WDW. (She is now 13). That's a big statement about the quality of the production. We are there again in the spring and had planned on seeing it (We missed it last time because it wasn't playing on the day we visited) so we feel kind of ripped off that it's now gone.

It's nice that it closed on a big high. Hopefully most of the performers will move to other productions locally.

We thought it far exceeded B&TB, but understand that the universal appeal of those characters is much broader than the Hunchback characters. Too bad though. We ARE happy that Disney fixed that silly thing about playing shows only 5 days a week. That was pretty stupid.

Sad but true...

I spoke to many of the cast members yesterday... many are having trouble finding other work in the park. Some are leaving & going to Tokyo.. some are already gone.

The saddest thing all day? The absolute most talented & handsome man... one of my favorites before he ever started at Hunchback... is going to be taking surveys!!

You know? Those people on your way in and out of the park? What a horrible WASTE! I cannot believe Disney couldn't find anything else for him! He is staying until Christmas to see if anything opens up & for seasonal entertainment. I am baffled... he is talented enough for any role in the park!

This was me walking by guest relations :zipit:

Lets be totatly honest here...The "usual' daily Hunchback show is very good. The castmembers are a "little" more casual on these days.

However, this show?....NOBODAY was holding back anything. They gave it every ounce of power they had.

Because this show does NOT use lip syncing, it gives the singers a chance really take control of their charachters, embelish their lines and really "sing" to the audience and tell the story.

I can't get over how well "Clopan" did. Dude scales really well made some really wild dynamics. He does not normally sing his butt off like this.

Did anybody on this board have a purple Hunchback tee shirt?

Yeah, the cast we crying and so where the Disney castmembers.

I myself, do not cry,...so I...........OK,...OK,..I can't lie. Esmerelda had me a bit choked up. There, I said it.

Well, I'll be checking out the tape today. Will try to get something out there toinight or tomorrow.

The Best Cast at a WDW Live Show

I am going to have to disagree with the following statement:

"Lets be totatly honest here...The "usual' daily Hunchback show is very good. The castmembers are a "little" more casual on these days. "

I have been a fan of this show since it first debuted back in 1996, and have seen it countless times. I can honestly say I have never seen a bad performance. I felt each member of the cast gave t heir all each time they stepped out on that stage.

Again, I must disagree with the following statement:

"I can't get over how well "Clopan" did. Dude scales really well made some really wild dynamics. He does not normally sing his butt off like this. "

Number one - please, it's "CLOPIN". Now, I will agree that I have never seen this man give a better performance - he was unbelievable that day!!! However, I have seen him do "Clopin" countless times. He gave his all with every performance. He ALWAYS "sang his butt off".

You also mentioned elsewhere that the high D at the end of "Bells of Notre Dame" was taped. Excuse me, but the Clopins I know actually SING that note. I've seen that show enough and have heard their voices long enough to distinguish the differences in the voices and singing styles.

Yes, there was a soundtrack tape for when an actor lost their voice and a sub could not be found in time and lip synching was necessary (I know a Clopin who had to resort to lip synching to his own voice when a sore throat rendered him hoarse). Sometimes the tape was used for a sub pulled at the last minute.

However, this is not the case with the actor who closed the show. I have sat right beside him on the runway. You can hear it coming out of his mouth. I've also been spit on by him :-) You can see the veins in his neck straining and see him tremble. I know people behind the scenes who can attest to this.

Sorry for the mini-rant, but I am personally acquainted with several of the Clopins; and I know how hard they work and how they take pride in giving a fine performance and pleasing their audiences! Each of these fine guys worked their butts off.

Ditto! Based upon another thread on the same subject I think that 10021982 has some sort of disguised motive.

This is a time I wished I lived in Florida near the parks. That way I could see everything each week at WDW. Someday! :sohappy:

10021982,

Sorry if I "ranted" a bit too much. I am guilty of being overprotective of my Clopins. It sounded as if you had a problem with this particular actor. It is just that I know how hard of a worker he is, and it bothered me to see someone else not agree with my views 100%. You are entitled to your opinions as I am to mine.

Sorry for the cyber outburst. The closing of the BEST show at WDW still has me upset!

No problem.

I hear you. After all, I'm also one the shows biggest supporters.

Clopin always does a great job. The last show was superb.

It deeply saddens me that I will never see it again. So many good friends were made because of a common love for it. It was amazing to see all the "regular" fans that were present that day.

We have our annual trip planned for April, but suddenly the excitement that was once there is no longer. The anticipation of seeing the show the day we arrive would get us through the winter.

Now, there is just an empty feeling. Funny, it is almost like a grieving process. I wonder if others feel the same way...
