HS Birthday Celebration

We are celebrating my grandson's third birthday at HS in April and are trying to choose a restaurant for his birthday dinner. There are 9 of us - 6 adults and 3 children. So far, we have been able to get reservations for the entire group at 50's Prime Time Cafe and Mama Melrose, and a split reservation (5 and 4) at Hollywood & Vine.

The advantage of 50's Prime Time and Mama Melrose is that we would be seated together, which would make it easy to celebrate with a cake. Has anyone done a birthday celebration at either of these places? If so, what was your experience and would you recommend it?

Even though I have been to WDW many times, I have never done a character meal so H&V would be a totally new experience. Do they do anything special to acknowledge a child's birthday? I'm not asking about getting anything free - we would order a cake. Also, has anyone had experience with making separate reservations there and then asking to be seated together or near each other? What do you think our chances would be?

Out of the places you have listed I'd say H&V is the most appropriate for celebrating a toddler's birthday.
I personally don't appreciate 50's PT atmosphere with the whole getting "in trouble" for not finishing your food before dessert etc.
I don't think a 3 year old would appreciate it either.
Often times at character meals they will have the characters stand there while you sing happy birthday.
I would go to the restaurant upon arriving at the park and explain you have a split party and are hoping you can be sat together.
This way they have time to see if they can switch around a couple other parties so you can all sit together or at least nearby each other.

I feel Primetime is a tight squeeze with even just 4 people, so that would be out for me. Can't go wrong with Italian so Melrose would be fine. That said. For a 3 yr old go for the Character meal. Pretty sure they can at least get two tables very close to each other if not together, especially if you are willing to wait and get there early You can be in and out faster too since it's a buffet, which can come in handy if the kids get squirrely. That said cancel the ones you don't want when you can that's a lot of cash to be holding down spots.

I appreciate the reply. We decided to keep H&V for the exact reasons you gave and already released the others.

I think it's awesome you guys are having so many people to celebrate! Let us know how the meal goes, have always considered doing that one but never pulled the trigger.
