How would the Jurassic Park Expansion be affected by a delay in Jurassic Park 4?

Rumours are going around today that Jurassic Park 4 has been put on hold.

IGN said:
The recently-announced Jurassic Park 4 might have been put on hold.

Two employees have revealed problems surrounding the production on Twitter. Initially, a Jurassic Park 4 concept artist tweeted "JP4 On Hold", while another member of the production team wrote: "Hollywood creates and crushes dreams. Goodbye JP4". (You can see the original screen grabs over at Ain't It Cool.) Both tweets have since been removed.

This potentially depressing news comes just days after director Colin Trevorrow confirmed the film would be returning to Isla Nubar, the island in the original film.

But things might not be as bleak as we first thought.

A "reliable source" close to JurassicPark4-movie claims Jurassic Park 4 is still in production but has been put on a temporary hiatus while some restructuring goes on behind the scenes. This restructuring seems to involve lay-offs to the production team but Colin Trevorrow is still supposed be in the director's chair.

So, how would this affect the Jurassic Park expansion?

Would they continue with building the Jurassic Park expansion, even though it wouldn't open at the same time as the film, or would they go back to Seuss Landing plans and open a Jurassic Park expansion later when (if?) the film was released.

None of the rumored attractions seem to be specific to JP4 & could be built no matter when the movie is released. I do see your point though about opening up the expansion at the same time that there is movie buzz, however I would like to think UNI would continue opening the expansion in 2015. Without looking it up, I want to say I remember Spielberg mentioning last year that JP4 would be out in Summer of '14. So if they're on some sort of hold with the progress of the movie maybe this will actually help UNI as I believe they would have been opening it a year after JP4 with the original timeline of both. I could be wrong about Spielberg's comment though.

I saw that too ... I think it can only be a good thing (in terms of the film) ... please get this one right. I LOVE the first one and never bothered with the second two more than the initial boring viewing(s).

One thing that excites me with Uni though is even if this is delayed further and it causes them to delay the JP expansion ... I have NO DOUBT they will just slide something else amazing in to open in 2015 ... Uni is truly following Walt's word "Keep Moving Forward" ... oh wait ... oh ...

I was thinking the same thing. Hell, I don't even have faith in this expansion.

Neither do I.

Not sure about the park expansion, but JP4 is delayed due to them not wanting to rush the project to meet the 2014 summer release date that was already announced. An official statement from uni already went out in regards to this. The movie is still happening, it just wont be coming out in 2014 anymore...

I hope they go through with it just because I feel the Jeep experience is what's been keeping Jurassic Park at IOA from feeling complete as far as an immersive experience into that setting goes.

I'm curious to see what form Jurassic Park 4 is going to take, though it's probably not going to be as good as the original or as out there as that one absolutely crazy JP4 script that involved scientists mixing human and dinosaur DNA with a little dog DNA for obedience to create a group of Dinosaur Commandos.

Just because a new movie isn't coming out it doesn't mean you can't build a good ride.
I totally agree with this. MK just opened an entire land based mostly on popular films from 1989 & 1991. Just like those films & stories...people still know JP and treasure it as a classic. Uni could create an amazing expansion regardless of what happens with JP4. Hell, this sequel has been put on hold no telling how many times since first rumored. We may never see it.
JP is still a well known name & story, and an IOA expansion would be successful whether or not we see any more sequels.

Do we have any news regarding the expansion yet other than a 2015 release date?

It's a shame the movie is going to be delayed.
Did anyone else see that trailer with willem Defoe and Sam Neil that was supposedly a trailer for Jp4?
Was it a fake?

Obviously fake...the only thing I know was that te director sent out a twit pic of te location they were gonna use as isla sorna! A few days after that it was announced they were retracting te 2014 release date...anything else is pure fiction!

I'm glad they are taking their time and not rushing!

After 3, I agree. The plot was so stretched for that one...

However, having just watched it again for the first time is years this past weekend, it wasn't as bad as I remembered it being...

I love the book, alot more gore and a tad more believable.

I'm only chiming in for one reason, I just did a JP marathon over the weekend after not seeing the films for years. I am certainly not qualified to be a rabid fan of the books or movies, though I love much of Crichton's books, and have a whole mini library of them.

Anyhow, all the films are all pretty good. Are they the Crichton books (well, JP and LW)...no...

But they are fun to watch, and the first one is really well done (and no, this isn't Spielberg love).

As a side note, to date me...the first movie I ever took a girl to a date to was JP. So, watching it again after nearly 20 years made me smile.

Crichton was rather involved in the film, which started development before the book's release. The Lost World was written to have another book be the basis of a sequel film.

As I recall it, Crichton pitched the concept for the book, and was already developing the novel, and the concept attracted the attention of movie producers before the book was even finished. But, he was paid separately, and it was a separate project to do the screen adaptation once the screen rights had been purchased.

Also, I would need to review the movie again, but I am pretty sure he was listed as the lead writer (with a co-writer) for JP 1 and 2...but not 3.

Don't get me wrong, the original JP movie holds a special place due to there were so many things graphically that were done for the 1st time and it had a beyond epic sound track.... I just feel instead of constantly putting out sub par sequels you could take a reboot route and come out darker and more true to the source material (the river chase and being trapped in the hotel are 2 particular sequences I really wish would have been in the original, even though we get a slight glimpse of the river attack in the 3rd movie)
