LOL I didn't mean the title to be like that.

So far....Finding Nemo and Pirates is number one and two for the year. What movies do you think will try to beat them out. LOTR will blow by them, I think.

Ah... there is no debate here. Finding Nemo is number one in all respects. There is no "so far" to worry about. Pirates is not in the same class.

Disney has had an incredible summer with not only Pirates and Nemo, but also Freaky Friday and Open Range which are surpassing expectations and showing great holds from week to week. I truly think Disney has some big hits coming up in the fall also with Brother Bear and Haunted Mansion. Both of these movies will need good marketing and good word of mouth to be successful in the busy November timeslots, but with the right mix they can come out doing great. Look at Nemo and Pirates this summer. No one at the beginning of summer would have even thought that both Pirates and Nemo would beat out such films as The Matrix and The Hulk, but they had the best word of mouth out of all the summer movies and they came out on top.

I do think though that The Matrix Revolutions will surpass the most recent Matrix. I predict it will pass Pirates (if Pirates makes a final amount of about 290-300), but may fall short of Nemo's 330, unless it is a spectacular movie with great word of mouth. I agree that Lord of the Rings will be this year's victor at the box office. I see final rankings going something like this :

1) Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
2) Finding Nemo
3) The Matrix Revolutions
4) Pirates of the Caribbean
5)Th Matrix Reloaded or some other movie ????

Of course, other movies like Cat in the Hat may do better than I expect and change my predictions.

(Little technical thing :) : Pirates is actually number 3 for the year at the BO after this weekend, but only about 5.5 million behind The Matrix Reloaded. However, Pirates is still making money while The Matrix has stopped, more or less. Thus, give it one more week and then it will be number 2. I see this film ending anywhere between 290 and 300 million, considering it is at 274.4 million right now and counting)

I think Finding Nemo will beat LotR: Return of the King for box office receipts in 2003. LotR: RotK is set to release on December 17th. It has two weeks to beat Nemo for the 2003 crown. When the tickets are all counted in 2004, LotR: RotK will probably rule as the highest grossing film released in 2003, but Nemo will probably still win for the most box office in calendar 2003.

Do we have to get that technical.

Anyway, I think it will be LOTR, Nemo, Pirates...I also think that Pirates might beat out Nemo but probably wont happen

The Matrix Revolutions will not surpass no. 4. Finding Nemo will stay at no. 1 and LOTR: The Return of The King will make just a bit less than Nemo to take no. 2. Pirates of The Caribbean will definitely take 3 with Revolutions behind at no. 4. Reloaded did good for maybe 2 weeks and then it was downfall from there, and I believe Revolutions will be just as unpromising. Reloaded will take 5th. The Haunted Mansion looks good enough to even make no. 6. Number 7 should go to Bruce Almighty,8 to X2,9 to Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines, and last but not least no. 10 to The Cat In The Hat.

1-Finding Nemo
2-The Lord of The Rings: Return of The King
3-Pirates of The Caribbean: Curse of The Black Pearl
4-The Matrix Revolutions
5-The Matrix Reloaded
6-The Haunted Mansion
7-Bruce Almighty
8-X2
9-Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines
10-The Cat In The Hat
11-Brother Bear
12-S.W.A.T.
13-Anger Management
14-The Rundown
15-Bad Boys II
16-Bringing Down The House
17-HULK
18-2Fast 2Furious
19-The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
20-Kill Bill

You start out by talking about for the year. Technically, there is no way for LOTR to pass any of the top movies for the year in terms of gross for the year, with only 2 weeks in theatres.

After all is said and done, I think that LOTR will pass both Nemo and Pirates in terms of total gross.

I hope I didn't offend you, my Pirates thing was meant to be silly, but it sure didn't come across that way when I just re-read it. It made me sound like a jerk. Sorry. Smile :D

Anyhow, to serious "technical stuff (;) )"when the box office is tallied for 2003, the TOTAL amount that LOTR makes, including in 2004, will be used to determine the order of movies (based on their gross) for the year of 2003. Thus, I think LOTR will beat Nemo for 2003's BO. It technically won't surpass Nemo this year, but because it comes out in 2003, what it makes in 2004 will be used to determine the order for 2003's movies. I hope that makes sense. :)

I too didn't mean to be jerky.

I had no idea that they would add the totals of 2004 in, but I guess it makes sense.

Off the subject now... Rumor is that the first 2 LOTR movies will be re-released shortly before Return of the King is. Since the first was released in a previous year, does a re-release in a different year count into previous year or what?

If that's too confusing try this. A movie is released in 2003, gets nominated for an Oscar, but is re-released in 2004 after nominations/wins an Oscar. Where does the re-release gross count?

Gross movie revenues are pure fiction. If Enron used Hollywood accounting, they'd still be in business! :animwink:

 The first two LOTR moive will be re-releashed two weeks before ROTK comes out. I justed watched my dvd today of the two towers. i watched the ROTK special, any indiction it looks to be the best LOTR movie surpassing Two Tower possibly getting into the 350 plus range

and yeah if you do that....there's no way a movie could make 350 million in 2 weeks.
