hello everyone, signed up a long time ago and life got in the way and finally back and ready to start planning! looking for advice:

trying to organise and plan our trip to Disney (will be first time, and unfortunately only time!) with my husband, 4 1/2 yr old daughter and nanna coming, too!. we are coming from Australia. we plan to come in may and first trying to work out the best week in terms of price, crowds and value. (thinking to fly on a tues, so start our week on a Wednesday) but most importantly, I'm wondering how and when to book? those from Australia, did you book yourselves or get an agent? I read somewhere that aussie agents cannot book directly with Disney anymore, so i'm thinking I need to book the hotel myself? and i'm guessing I will have to book flights separate as it's so early. so was thinking of booking with a local travel agent for flights (like flight centre) and then the room/tickets myself direct with Disney? not really bothered about getting the meal plan as we will be doing a lot of sharing meals and also probably eating at Disney springs. I think we have decided on port Orleans French quarter as we don't have a massive budget, I like that there is a boat to ds and friends stayed there and really enjoyed it. thinking to stay 8 nights and do parks 7 days (arrival night will be late, so won't go to Disney that day, then mk day 1, followed by (doesn't have to be in this order) epcot, hs, ak, then break day, then maybe epcot again and last day mk, then depart to another US city next day.

I have done a bit of planning and have tentative itineraries made up.. but want to start here for now and ask more questions later. any suggestions for me. want to get in early so we can ensure the best rates and get the most for our money. any advice certainly welcome!! thanks a million in advance :)

oops with a break day that is only 6 park days. is that enough? probably not! we will hopefully arrive daily before rope drop and maybe most days go to the room for a rest/nap/pool.

Hello, fellow Aussie here about 3 weeks out from our 3rd trip to Disney world :). First off when are you planning to go? May 2019? Flights only open up about 11 months out and if you are booking your room online, through the Disney website, rates will open up for the following year around the end of June. You wont necessarily get the best rates by booking early as fall discounts normally come out early January but if the room you have booked is offered at a cheaper rate later you can change it over if you get in quickly. Port Orleans French quarter is a gorgeous resort, you wont regret it.
I think with a small child 6-7 days would be plenty, especially if you are purchasing park hoppers and can go to two different parks in one day if you choose. Disney can be exhausting! It will be enough time to visit each park once, visit Disney Springs on your non park day and then revisit your favorite things on your other two days. That's just my opinion though, i definitely haven't been to Disney as many times as i would have liked.

2019tephK, thanks for your advice! Yes, we are planning on going may 2019, sorry should have mentioned. I've read they will start releasing prices around june 2018 for the next year. So if I book the room myself directly through the Disney website and there is a better price, they will refund or change the price? or will I have to cancel my booking and rebook completely? The only thing I know for sure is we are definitely going may, just need to decide which week and definitely staying at POFQ. I think i'll book for 9 nights as I've had bad luck with flights being cancelled (the last 2 times I've flown to the US!) so better for extra just in case and then we can do 7 days Disney and 1 break day.

did you book your flights yourself? i'm just wondering when to book flights.

I know a couple of Australians on Touring Plans who booked with a US based travel agent. I think the TA handled flights, resort, tickets etc, as well as ADRs. They booked FPs themselves.

Might be worth speaking to Kingdom Konsultants, to see if they could help you. They're a board sponsor. Paging Pam at @Kingdom Konsultant for advice. :)

Hey there,
I'm 3 weeks out from my holiday to WDW from Perth :)
I booked flights through Student Flights (because they price match) to LA, then the internal flight myself. I also booked my disney hotel through student flight too because at the time the price with them was better than I could find online (Staying at Coronado Springs) - Personally I'd wish I had just booked directly with Disney for the hotel. I want to upgrade and am now stuck going through my travel agent, Disney wont touch my booking...
