How to use non acid-free items?

I was in the paper a few weeks ago for my job. I'd like to create a few pages in my personal scrapbook (once I finish making the one for my friend!) about my job and would like to include the photo and article. Any ideas on how to do this? Newspaper print yellows so easily...

What about any other items that are not acid-free? Do you make the effort to do something that will better keep their quality? What is available for this?

Kat - I recommend either making a copy of the article and using the copy since newsprint does not hold up well or you could also use a spray on like Krylon Make It Acid Free Spray. This is a spray that neutralizes acid by raising the paper's pH level so it prevents brittleness and deterioration.

I wish this spray had been around for all the articles about my dad in the 60s when he was a horse jockey. I can't tell you how much has been lost because newsprint just was not meant to last forever.

Hope this helps.

Would the spray stop the paper from turning yellow? Hmmm... I'm guessing I can find that at my local craft store (Hobby Lobby)? About how much does that run?

There are two on the market you should be able to find relatively easy.

Krylon - Make It Acid Free comes in a 3 oz. can for $5-$6 or a 6 oz. can for around $12

EK Success - Archival Mist comes in a 1.5 oz. can for $13-$17 or a 5.3 oz. can for way more (MSRP $44.00)

Now, I believe they do the same thing. Krylon has been around for a long time so I wouldn't hesitate to go with the cheaper option. Of course if the EK Success is the only one you can find, they are known for good quality too.

Yes this should make a big difference in the yellowing of newsprint. Hobby Lobby would be a great place to look. If you don't find it there, PM me and I'll tell you some other places in Middle TN to try. There are also some good options online. I can give you those sites too if I need to. Just let me know!
