When my me, my wife, an my son travel to WDW this November, my son has asked me to think about letting my niece go with us. They have a very close relationship and are like best friends. She went with us for one night before and it was no problem but now we are going for 4 days and I would like her to go to but it would be about close to $400 extra:jawdrop: Anyone have any ideas on how to save some $$$?:):):):)

You could sell a kidney... you only need one anyway right? :hilarious:
I use the target 5% off to save some funds by buying discounted Disney gift cards.
I would maybe think of something you buy all the time that you don't really need (like a daily trip to Starbucks or something) and use that money for the trip instead.

Over the past year DH and I have decided to go minimal, I'll admit a little hard with 5 kids. Over the past year we have gone room by room and closet by closet chucking what we dont need, (3 sets of Queen size sheet, we don't have a queen size bed!?!) home decor items, lots and lots and lots of clothing, toys, kitchen items, you get my point. I consign the nicer stuff, Craig's List, donate and garage sale. Do 20 minutes of purging a night and put it all in one place, the garage, and start selling. Right now I have about 20 things on Craig's List and different Facebook Garage Sale sites. I am meeting two people tomorrow one for DH's wetsuit he never uses and me for a mirror form Kriklands that was sitting in our basement. Two weeks before our trip in September I will have yard sale and hopefully make our gas money. Since our Spring purge I have made 610.00 off Craig's list selling baby items, maternity clothes and home items. I never have anyone come to our home and meet in busy places like Targets parking lot and only accept cash. I have done at least 100 different transactions onnCL and never had a problem. Our consignment store loves us, I am a size 10/12 I guess a popular size and they are always mentioning that more stuff would be nice. They also LOVE DH's clothes not enough Mensware consigned.
Just wanted to add in a few years when our baby is walking We will take our nephew and pay his way. He is a joy and we would have so much fun enjoying out special place with him. It is very kind to want to included your niece, I hope you find the money:) Have a Magical and safe vacation!

Is the additional cost including a flight? I would ask her parents to pay for the flight and you pay for the rest (hotel, park tickets, dining, and souvenirs) I am doing the exact thing with my sister when she comes with is to DL next April. I am making my stepdad pay for the flight.

One thing that we do to save extra money is to not spend change. We have one of those automatic counting change jars that keeps track of what you put into it. We try to always use cash when out and about and never, ever spend our change. I empty my wallet onto the counter and the kids have fun filling the change jar. You would be surprised to see how quickly change adds up!

I also keep a plastic container hidden in my closet that I stash bills in. A dollar here, a five dollar bill there.....before you know it you've a nice little stash going.

We have found that little bites are easier to handle than a big chunk. :)

No, just the 4 day ticket plus mvmcp since free dining, hotel is covered, asking her parents is not an option.:):)

Well keep a spare change jar and save up. Or like others have stated have a garage sale. If u r able to, you can also put $25 dollars a side every week and stash it. If u do that you should have about $400 by the time the money is due to Disney. U r going in Nov, so the Nd if September beginning of October is when your trip will need to be paid off.

I buy our weekly groceries and household items with cash. Any left over cash goes towards buying Disney Gift Cards. You can get them at Lowe's and Target if there is not a Disney store near you. By paying cash, it's my incentive to get the best possible deals ( I don't want to come up short at the register). It is like a game for my daughter and I. She loves getting the Disney Cards, and over time they really add up.

This is very generous of you for both your niece and son. I hope it works out.

My parents decided to take myself, DW and our kids for Christmas. They are paying for the trip but told us that we were responsible for all of our spending money.

Things are always tight around here so I have started putting 20 away each week from the wife's and my paycheque. Saving a little bit at a time is the only way for us.

I love that you posted this because we are in the same boat. My daughters have a special friend who is like family. She calls us Mom and Dad and we love her like one of our daughters. We are planning a girls only trip...myself, two daughters, and "adopted" daughter. Just three nights this coming December. We used CC points to purchase her flight and we'll have to purchase her ticket and pay for food, etc.
I'm so excited to hear all the good ideas :D
Asking parents to contribute is not an option for us either. She's never been to Disney and we're super excited to take her. It will be an added expense so any little extra I can come up with will be a big bonus!!

Garage sale's a great idea. We just sold a bunch of our kids old stuff and made ~$500. Otherwise, are the kids old enough to do any jobs (i.e. mow lawns, walk dogs, etc.)? If so, tell them to go around the neighborhood and see who they can help for a few bucks. That adds up quickly. The other idea is to have your bank automatically deposit money into a savings account. For example, we have it where every time we use our debit card, $1 is put in savings. I accumulate about $100 a month from that without really even realizing it. The last idea I have is to buy generics for awhile instead of name brand, and put the money you saved into savings.
