I was wondering how I could land myself this awesome job. Do you need experience? Is it only attainable by promotion?

well, i think it is like 90% of professions on this earth, you could be trained to do it, but i think you have to be an employee (CM) and try to get that job. the only reason i think this is because we were riding in the cabin in '01 and we asked the pilot that exact question and i really cant remember his response verbatum, but i dont think he said he had worked at disney for to long and i cant remember if he said he signed up or if he was promoted????

but i stand strong in that i think anyone that could drive a car could learn how to push a stickshift to make the most wonderfully fun mode of transportation go.

so, i think i answered maybe 50% of your question???????

I was a Monorail Pilot for a year and a half. Basic job requirements are that you must be at least 18 years of age, and have a valid drivers license with a decent record. You must also have a brain, posess common sense, and a strong passion for the job. You should also realize that a good majority of the day is spent out on the platforms. You only drive maybe 1hr per day, depending on shift and rotation.

As for actually getting hired into the job, it is possible. However, only when positions are actually available. You can request it, and go on a wait list if there are no positions available when you go to casting.

Exactly. They are not gonna automatically put you in there since you want to, it is popular position I am sure. But hey you could work in one position for 6 months while being on the wait list and then transfer.

Actually, with the new contract (well, new being '99), you have to wait one year before you can transfer. (its 6mo once you've passed that first year)

However, like I said, if they don't have it available that day, you can go on a wait list.

Are you being serious? The person just said that..you would have to wait for a position to open, then you would start training.

I figured you would have to work the platform for a while.

It really depends. Platform training is 2 days, and then you remain there for a week or two... perhaps more, if circumstance requires (ie: Busy holiday, or trainees in line in front of you)

I can't remember how long drive training is... 5-7 days if I remember correctly. (it's been nearly 4 years... lol)

It's a legitimate question... Once you are in Monorails, you are still only a Monorail Host/Hostess. It can sometimes take a month or so before you get drive trained and earn your wings.
