How strict is the Halloween policy for costumes?

After this trip I'd like to go for a Halloween because we never have. Since I'm growing a very nice beard, I was thinking a couples costume where my wife dresses as fignent, and I dress as dream finder... Would this be something they frowned upon? Never seen a Halloween party so I wasn't sure. Plus it's a character they choose to not care about...

Not frowned upon at all. There are people who don't dress up at all, or just wear a Halloween t-shirt, or go really all-out on their costumes. The spirit of the party is to dress up, and your idea sounds great!

As long as you're not covering your face with a mask or pretending to be an official character and signing autographs, you will be fine.

You can read more about it here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/parks/dress/

Have fun!

I love your costume idea!! I love seeing other guests get really into the Halloween spirit in the parks.
We’re going in September of this year. Our plan is to dress as Han and Leia, our son as Kylo Ren.

The only things to remember with a costume like that is a dragon costume will be very hot. You are going to be in Florida so try to make sure it is cool or you'll cook. Same thing goes for the suit of the dreamfinder, I would strongly suggest if you construct the suit yourself that you use very lightweight material and make it a faux /suit combination so you don't really have to wear a full shirt under a suit and vest. I have done a costume with the full shirt, vest and jacket and lasted maybe 2 hours before I was dripping wet, I've also done a costume that was the faux shirt and coat combined (and yes it didn't look real up close) but it was substantially cooler and more comfortable.

You are good for planning your costume way ahead, but just because it is winter now remember that when you do their Halloween it will be anything but cool weather.

Oh and for the dragon costume don't add on any sort of long tail that would touch the ground that would be a problem... though I've never seen them stop anyone with a long cape or tail they do list it in their costume rules. I suspect because it would be both a tripping hazard walking in a crowded place and because it could get caught on any number of rides.
