How soon to book flight?

OK-We aren't going until next November (yes I know that's a long time out) but I am very excited to take my daughter on her first trip to DW. We want to fly since she will be 2 1/2 at that time.

When do you typically book flights for Disney? Is six months a good time to get the best rates?

Thanks for any input!

I always buy in June when flying into Orlando. The rates always seem to really drop at that time. I am in Atlanta and this year I got RT tickets to Orlando for $80. I also use www.airfarewatchdog.com. You sign up with them and input the dates you want to travel on. They will send emails to you for when the rates drop. Have fun!

I think that the most the airlines will allow you to book is 333 days out. And no, I have no clue how they arbitrarily came up with that number. :) Southwest only allows you to book at 180 days out. :brick:

I am going to have too look into that site. I use Tripadvisor too. I planned on flying with SW last time and almost booked with them but then I found a deal with Delta, again, that got us 4 round trip tickets out of Louisville, KY for a total of $550. Even with baggage included it was a couple hundred cheaper than SW. I hope that happens again.

Yes, but with Delta, you run the risk of you or your luggage not making it. I have never had a good experience with Delta. With SW, very, very, very rarely do they not get you where you are going. In fact, I fly about 24 round trips a year on SW and I have never been left stranded.

For the last 2 years I've booked our November flight with Air Tran in April.

Both years within 2 weeks of the flights becoming available there's been a large drop in fares for a very short window. (like 1 to 2 days)

Last year I got Rochester NY to Orlando for $62 PP and this year $72 PP.

I have been flying with Delta since I was a kid and my father was in the Air Force, then when I enlisted in the Air Force, then for recreation after the Air Force, then at least 10 times a year for my job and twice a year for vacations with my family and I/we have only had bags lost by Delta about twice. That's it. I'm not saying the others are worse but I've had only those two instances. I am more inclined to fly with SW now that bags are free with only them but they need to have their prices match or be lower than competitor's prices when you figure in their bag fee's.

Look around now and get an idea of prices. It usually cheaper Tuesday and more expensive on the weekends. If you see a price that seems right to you grab it. Many airlines are continuing to cut the number of seats to maintain or raise prices so don't be scared to buy if you think the price is right. I bought my tickets in March for December because I found tickets for $160 round trip from Buffalo. Good luck!
