Hi! I'm new to this board and I'm going to be going to orlando later this month. It will be my second time to disney world and my first time to universal. I'm deciding whether or no to go on EE and ROTM. I was wondering how much scarier they were than Space Mountain. Or just how scary they are in general.

In comparison to Space Mountain, Everest is a bit scarier. However, I feel that if you enjoy SM, Everest is something you would enjoy as well. There are parts of the ride on Everest where you go backwards in the dark, as opposed to just going forward on Space. There's no upside down and the track is very smooth on Everest.
If you get scared, just close your eyes.:animwink:

I hope that you enjoy!

Both these rides rely more ambient effects and show scenes to amplify the experience. In other words, neither is a "world breaking," "hardcore" experience that is hyper-intense. Although thrilling, I don't consider them to be very scary.

Although everyone is different, If you can handle space mountain, I think that you should be able to handle both. And, considering these are two of the best themed coasters in existence, it would be a shame to miss out on them.

Revenge of the Mummy doesn't have any large drops. The tallest is about the height of a two story house. With every turn there's a hill (up or down). The backwards portion isn't anything to be worried about. There's one major acceleration point in the attraction that launches you 0-45, similar to Rock N Rollercoaster. Do something most people don't do and read the signs out front! And if you have any questions, ask an attendant--that's what we're there for.

It depends on your definition of scary. If your definition is high speeds and drops, EE is probably scarier to you.

ROTM has more special effects with bugs, fire, strobe lights, etc...

Both might frigten you with ROTM having a very realistic animatronic Mummy, and EE having a very realistic animatronic Yeti. Hope that helps! :)

never been to Universal

but Everest is like Big Thundar Mountain with one drop...equivalent or less than Splash Mountain...

the backwards ride is different...little disorienting...but not scary...

worth doing...

what about splash mountain, never rode it thinking the drop might be too steep, does it grab your stomach? I rode Test Track and that was a little fast, so trying to compare

Expedition reminds us of a better Big Thunder Mountain I was nervous to do it but afterwards it was no different than BTM. As far as the Mummy Oh my God I was petrified to try it I almost chickened out but I did it and afterwards said we have to do it again. It went so fast I didnt even see anything so we did it again and it was great.

People often reference the "big drop" on Everest as an element that would make it "scary" to people. In truth, the drop on Everest is simply not the same sensation as the types of drops that usually scare people. The little drops on Space Mountain are actually more intense in terms of giving you the sensation of falling. The drop on Everest goes almost immediately into a banked turn, which all but eliminates that "falling" sensation that usually makes a drop thrilling to many people. So if drops are what scare you, don't even be concerned about Everest. It's not the same type of drop. The drop on Splash Mt, for example, is about 30 feet shorter and is much more intense than the Everest drop. So are the ones on Space Mt, which are only a few feet each.

As another poster said, it depends on what scares YOU personally. If it's drops, then we've covered that (not an issue on Everest or the Mummy). If being in the dark is what scares you, then all three have that element, but it's considerably less so on Everest. If going backwards is what scares you, then Everest is the worst for that. The Mummy does it, but only for a few seconds, and it's not going fast at the time. In actuality, the Mummy is very much like Space Mt at two points in the ride, only it's a MUCH smoother ride.

If intense special effects are what scare you, then avoid the Mummy at all costs. It is loaded with them. It has fire, bugs, things jumping out at you, and a few other surprises. Everest doesn't really have any impressive effects to speak of. The Yeti is cool, but blink and you'll miss it. You only see it once during the entire ride and it's way too brief (I think Disney really missed the target on that one). Someone mentioned the impressive Mummy animatronic. It IS impressive and you actually get to see it for more than half a second. You're not even going fast yet when it makes it's appearance.

Hope that helps!

the first time i rode the mummy we got in the ride not realizing it was a rolar coaster. it's very deceptive if you don't read the signs. I thought it was going to be similar to Kong which the mummy took over it's building. the ride cars come up .. very small . i was like okay. I was in for a shock an awsome one, when the thing launches you and turns in to a full scale rolar coaster. Best experience of my life. Not to mention I loved both mummy movies. The scorpion king doesn't count.

Space Mountain is nothing compared to Revenge of the Mummy and Expedition Everest, as far as scariness is concerned.

Everest is scarier to me, because of the big drop outside...the backwards part isn't really scary. It just makes me a little dizzy when I get off.

another element

It is difficult to compare the three. The variety of responses are certainly indicative of that. Previous posts have mentioned the effect of the darkness in both SM and ROTM. Another element to consider is height. When riding Everest, because of the light, you can see for a long way (much like when the doors open on Tower of Terror). If you have an apprehension concerning heights then you might consider this.

As I have previously mentioned I am terrified of hieghts. I am, however, really looking forward to EE. I rode ToT once and hated it, should this concern me about EE?

There's only a fairly brief portion of EE when you are aware of how high you are, near the top of the lift hill. I'm not real comfortable with heights either. As long as I don't look directly down at the ground, but instead look off to the horizon, the view is quite thrilling and not scary.
