How rare are reds?

I'm trying to decide if I want to attend the latest entertainment color coding. I went to the last one and was really happy with my animation code, yellow. I thought my movement code was right on, I got a blue, I'm a little flaky and I'm also the dancer one count behind and on the wrong foot so I felt like blue was what I earned and I'm happy with that. There's another color code audition coming up and I'm debating if I should go again. I don't feel like I can raise my movement code right now and I was wondering if I should even expect to be able to raise my animation to a red. I really hated the whole enviorment of the color code audition, it was miserable, the usual audition behavior and cattiness. I'd really rather not do it again anytime soon.

I was a Red in animation, low yellow in Dance, and a yellow in puppets. No stilt coding.

My ex/current/on-again-off-again girlfriend was a Yellow in animation and a red in dance. No puppet or stilt coding.

Red can be obtained... but I feel the cattiness in WDW Entertainment also affects the directors, the ones who need to be professionals. I know people like Saroyah will offer better color codes and better roles to brownnosers and people she views as friends... but it's been the same in years past with other people. I refused to brownnose (or even play nice most of the time) and it showed... I had to fight for everything I got. I know people who were blue blue getting picked for roles over me because they had fecal matter on their nose.

Want a red? Kiss some bootie or DANCE DANCE DANCE!

Saroyah was actually at my original audition and my color code. I simply don't have the time or energy to brownose.
If I had a blue in movement and a red in animation would it really open up more roles for me since my movement would be a lot lower than my animation?
Also how do you know if you have a high yellow or high blue?

Psst...It's Saroya...Not Saroyah.

Also, I believe if you have a yellow movement, it would open up more to you than if you had a red animation. Mainly because there's isn't a lot for someone who can barely dance but can animate really well. But if you can dance fairly well (yellow) and animate really well (red) then you have a better chance of obtaining better roles in Entertainment.

I think only Casting knows if you are a high yellow or a high blue. Also, if you know someone else in your height range with the same color code, sometimes you can compare roles open to you and sometimes that will tell if you are high or low.

P.S.-Don't be a brownoser...it's never got people far.

I've known several people who deserved reds in animation , but didn't get it because of their level in the company, and the fact that the auditioners didn't like them very much, (they had to much fun at their jobs) Most of the time, in my experience iv'e found that most people who get the reds, especialy in things such as dance and puppetry are actualy staging specialists as well. They don't give the reds out to just anybody, it's almost something you have to earn over time.

Something that we use in the entertainment dept.

Sorry, but this "reads" a little snottty.

As in, "Only entertainment personnel are allowed to know this huge secret. Mere mortals are not privy to these codes."

And yet, all of you have fairly freely discussed your own coding. One can gather from context clues that it has to do with ratings for characters and their proficiency in dance, animation, etc.

If you don't care to explain it in detail, that's fine. But it isn't really a trade secret; just jargon unique to a department in a corporation.

...and I apoligize if I've come off as rude. I just got off the phone with hospital billing people and am a little steamed. I cannot understand why they cannot get a bill to me on time every month!

It wasnt made to come out "snotty" it was just a statement.

Like how other dept. use codes for other things. Thats what we do, color coding is a code for you movement and animation.

Well to be honest, it kind of is a "Secret". Just like a lot of things at Disney, there are secrets and we don't neccesarily have to tell everyone the way that things work in Entertainment. It's bad enough we get asked every day if we're "hot in there" or "a boy or girl in there" :(

I used to be a castmember, I just didn't know anyone in Entertainment or about the color-coding system. Sorry for asking since it turned into such a touchy subject. :lookaroun

Since this board is meant for CM's I really don't see the need to be all that secretive. It was a simple question and everyone's response to the poster that asked seems awfully snotty to me.
Yeah, we don't have to talk about things that go on in entertainment but since we started a post on a public forum it's a little late to start acting like things are big secrets.

I'll answer it. It's your perceived level of skill in 2-4 areas as said by the Disney Casting Directors. The 2 main ones are Dancing and Animation, and the 2 other ones are Puppets and Stilts.

From least to most experienced, Green - Blue - Yellow - Red

just like in the prestige (good movie go see it) an entertainer lives by his secrets. the audience will beg and ple for your secret but the moment you give it to them, you not longer mean a thing to them. So we do tend to hold on to our secrets.

Color Codes... such a big friggin secret. They're just like rankings in any permanent theatrical production that has multiple understudies and people trained for various roles. At least Disney keeps color codes confidential... Universal has your rank on the schedule.
