How much cash should we bring?

Being a Canadian, I don't carry American currency in my wallet on a regular basis. So usually before leaving for a trip in US, I stop by my bank and purchase some good old American dollars.

Disney is a little different than a trip to NYC where I know I will be paying cash for some items. At Disney, everything will either be paid for, or charge to the room via the Magic Band.

I do want to have some cash on me for emergencies, but how much is enough? Will $100 get me through the week?

$100 will do fine. The wife and I often would split $100 cash between the two of us for a trip with the kids and would often come back with about $80-$90 left.

About the only place we ever spent it was getting drinks and snacks for the trip back at the gas station or for a tip at a bar.

This is Disney. Better make it $500. ;)

Depends on how big of a credit card bill you want to come back to. I always bring enough cash for purchases that are under $10, so I bring enough to cover drinks and snacks throughout the week.

I don't mind the credit card bill when we get back, I tend to pay it off each month anyways, and I get cash back on all our purchases. However, I know we will want to take a cab once or twice for early breakfast ADRs, and might get some quick items here and there.

I just don't want to get back home and still have $60 in my wallet, because I'll need to go to the bank to trade it off , and will lose time and dollars.

Most cabs will take a credit card now. Ubers and Lyft certainly do.

Don't forget a wad of singles to tip housekeeping, bell services, etc. I usually bring an envelope with about $50 in ones ($5 per night for housekeeping for 8 nights, plus $5 for bell services on each end).

We have a $US savings account, so that's enabled us to do a bit of cost averaging when it comes to fluctuations in the CAD. We don't have to worry as much about our dollar diving while we're away. So we tend to bring a LOT of cash with us, and store all but what's needed for the day in the safe at the resort. You'll want to take a look at what your card charges for currency conversion. Some charge less than others ( and there are a few Canadian cards that have no fee).

We've always got a couple hundred left over after the trip, but since we go to the States every year, it just goes into our safe until the next trip.
