The last time I flew I was 11. How much can you take on a plane? I was thinking of taking my jeep stroller because I know its nice and comphy for my 2y/o but I will also have his car seat, for the plane and rental car plus all our bags ect.. what about the pack-n-play, can you take that on the plane? I am new here and appreciate all info.:hammer:

You should be able to gate check the stroller, so that you don't have to bring it onto the plane and fight to find a spot for it, but do have it available when hiking around the airport.

Make sure that your car seat is actually airline approved, otherwise they will not let you use it. There must be a certified sticker somewhere on it.

Most airlines do have a 50 pound per-bag limit for checked bags, some let you get about 5 pounds over that before the surcharge kicks in, which is usually $25 each way for a bag up to 70 pounds. We get hit with this a lot, because a while before they lowered the weight limits, we purchased a HUGE Samsonite hard-side suitcase, which makes it very easy to go over the 50 lb limit (and sometimes the 70 lb limit  )

We usually totally over pack when traveling with our 3 year old, ending up with two large checked bags, and then carry on a camera bag, a huge laptop backpack (those darn 17" PowerBooks take up space! ), a moderate sized backpack full of kid stuff and a convertible airplane seat/car seat/stroller.

Rather than hassle with a separate stroller and a car seat, we opted for the Sit-n-Stroll convertible airplane seat/car seat/stroller. Works great on the plane, in the car, and around the airport. Has smallish wheels when converted to a stroller, so not meant for off-road use, and takes getting used to hopping on/off curbs. However, it has been an absolute life saver on long trips!

It's best to check with the airline you are flying with. Most airlines allow two checked bags and two carry on bags per person. Generally handbags do not qualify as a carry on (unless it is the size of a carry on!).
I know that on Southwest, a handbag does count as one carryon.

Also, Carseats do not count as carryons - and depending on the airline - sometimes strollers do not count either... I would recommend a Diaper Bag full of toy's, formula, diapers, etc... and your hand bag, - if you get one of those oversized carry-on's (from Walmart) or backpack, you can pack your purse right in with the diaper bag so that it only counts as one carry-on. You are allowed two check in pieces for each adult traveling (unless you are paying for a seat for the baby - then he would get two checked pieces as well) If you are just doing the free lap deal then you'll need to check your pack-n-play and then each suitcase - We can usually pack enough for baby in one suit case and my husband & I split the other one - Here's a quick tip - don't pack diapers or formula. They take up alot of room and weight - just pack enough in your diaper bag to get you through that first day (and maybe some extra in case of delayed flights, etc.) Once you get to the airport you can stop at any grocery store and pick up diapers and formula... as well as snack foods, etc. This saves us lots of room in our luggage - as well as the hassel of worrying about things busting open...

Hope this helps!

thanks for all the info. someone also suggested that I buy a umbrella stroller at walmart when I arrive($12.99), but I just love my stroller. (My dh and I are both tall so it gets to our backs having to hunch over w/the umbrella strollers) I am so clueless when it comes to flying, I didn't know any of this stuff.

Thanks a bunch
