How many have to attend to make the park break even?

Bit of a strange question this and I'm sure there are many factors involved including meal and merchandising takings etc. What I'm trying to get at though is how many people have to attend each Disney Park to make sure it's not made a loss that day? For instance has Disney ever released figures such as 'the Magic Kingdom needs 18,000 visitors to cover all costs of running the park that day' etc? Don't worry I'm not planning on buying Disney myself. It's just everytime I'm there (even in off season) they seem to be taking money none stop in shops and dining areas throughout the day and on top of that the ticket revenue. It just seems hard to imagine they're ever running at a loss but I just wondered if anyone knew the actual figures?

Disney made $1902 million from Parks and Resorts in 2012 alone. That's an average of $5.2 million per day.

Energy consumption per day approximately $5000. Wage costs per day approximately $3.5 million.

Disney is never running at a loss!

(Figures are all very rough estimates so don't take them too seriously!)

This would be a tough one to figure out as the most specific figures Disney gives for revenue is an overall revenue figure for domestic parks & resorts, which includes all US parks, hotels and cruise ships. They've surely got the numbers that would be needed to figure this sort of thing out but it's not public and probably not a huge concern to them.

Interesting stuff there and thanks. I always thought they were making big money and those figures are really interesting.

5K seems kind of low, but I'm not an expert on energy at all. I just imagined it being a higher number than that.

That's what I figured, hahah. Ballpark estimate?

I couldn't even begin to guess.

I own a small business, at our peak we were operating 6 or so sites, smallish. Think somewhere around the size of Crystal Palace for all our sites combined. And our daily electric was somewhere around $400 a day. I honestly can't even begin to imagine what WDW's energy consumption is like. Makes me dizzy just thinking about it.

Yeah, more like one land uses $5k a day, imagine all the electricity the rides use.

I good friend of mine worked for the Parks and Resorts group back in the late 90s, early 2000s as a gold level executive. Based on information he was given, WDW in Fla breaks even just on ticket sales (revenue vs cost). At that time, they actually did not track ticket sales/use; they were only concerned about the "number of times thru a turnstile" per person. They were able to translate this to spend per person. Every dollar spent per visit was their focus.

I thought they were powered by dreams, wishes, and pixie dust which is why you always feel like your floating through the heavens on ethereal wings on Disney rides.

Powdered ? Perhaps that's why YOU feel like you're floating .
