I am curious if anyone has moved to the WDW area since becoming a DVC member and if this has changed the way you use DVC? My wife and I live in Massachusetts but will be moving to the greater orlando area next year because of my job. Being that close...I am weighing the advantages to being a DVC member. I really don't want to give up my DVC status.....but maybe it's not as much of a value if you live close to the park. I welcome any opinions about this. Selfishly...I can't wait to be close so that we can be more selective about when we visit. It would be cool to simply drive down to Epcot for dinner or take a long weekend here and there at the parks for food and wine or flower and garden festivals...etc.

Hey there! We live just outside of Tampa and are DVC members. It's great!

We can go for long weekends a few times a year.

This year, we are going for a weekend in May, a week in June, long weekend over Labor Day and overnight in December.

We'll see star wars weekend, end of the flower show and the osborne lights. It's nice to be able to hop in the car and go. Living here gives you tons of flexibility, plus you are on vacation and you still feel like you are on vacation- even if you are close to home.

Welcome to Florida!

I actually bought into DVC about a year ago AFTER I moved to Central FL. I bought a small contract, and my intent was to use it as a place for my mom to stay when she came to visit (I have a cat & she has alergies...). I have since moved a little farther away from property (I was about 12 miles away before, now about 35 miles), but I still use it - for myself! I am scheduled to stay at OKW in May for the POTC event and I am thinking about taking a few days off from work in Oct to stay on property for my "big" birthday.

I also just got back from a quick trip to Vero Beach. I was there for 3 days and loved it - it's only about 1 1/2 hours away and beautiful! I didn't post a trip report here, however.

I do now... when we bought we were in NY. But last year we moved to Lakeland, FL.
Which is just 30 minutes from Disney with no Traffic.

I stayed at SSR last weekend... It was awesome. I just hung out by the pool the whole time. I find I take the time to enjoy the resorts more now.

I go to the parks all the time now. So when I am actually staying on property I don't have the draw to get up and run to the parks in the morning.
Instead I play tennis, rent bicycles, visit the community hall, win iPuppy's playing Bingo at the pool. :)
It awesome!

TTFN!

I'm from Kentucky but was based in England when we bought into Old Key West in 1992. We now live in Celebration. We've lived here for two years now. I'd say don't do anything at first and see what happens. We've found that they're great for guests, weekend getaways with just my wife and me and our daughter in college likes to bring her friends in. We'll probably wind up selling some and keeping some but if I were you, I'd hold off doing anything for a while.

We are about to do this. The wife and I bought SSR in Feb during a cruise. Now I'm relocating my office to Temple Terrace and we are looking to move somewhere between Tampa and Orlando. Hopefully we'll get to use the World Collection more along with VB, HH and Cruises....maybe some WDW thrown in just to get away.
