OK, so let's start with the reported attendance for 2016 from TEA.
DL - 17,943,000
DCA - 9,295,000
So a total of 27,238,000 visits.
But this is counted by a turnstile click at one of the two parks in the same day. (Park Hopping is not part of this number, but tracked internally). So if the same person goes on multiple days, one click is added each day).
This week in the news, we had a Disneyland Spokesperson saying the average AP holder makes about 10 visits. And is you use the one million number mentioned in the same article (unofficial, but the most widely accepted amount), that makes up 10 million clicks, or in reality 1 million different guests.
Then we look at all the folks who buy multi-day ParkHoppers, which can range from 2 to 10 days (special Aussie/NZ tickets). Let's say an average of 4 clicks.
Then we have to look at comps and CM sign-ins. Each CM is allowed multiple sign-ins, plus can visit the parks on their off-days. Also, Disney employees throughout the entire corporation get access. We have about 35,000 DLR CM's, so lets say between sign-ins and other related things (free tickets on Holidays), we have at least 350,000 visits at 10 per CM for an average,
At Media events, the press are issued tickets and are counted as visits.
Disney donates a lot of tickets for charity.
So when it comes down to it, about 10 million different guests, more than likely less.
And this matches up with the numbers I have heard from Hotel owners and tourism official. That the DLR makes up less than half of all visitors to Anaheim. (As in Convention Center, Sports and Concert events, business folks coming on business from out of town, people visiting relatives, etc.)
