How many costumes are there for characters?

Since many characters appear in multiple places in the same park or different parts of the resort at the same time, how many costumes are kept for certain characters? I assume the most popular characters like Mickey, Donald, Chip 'n Dale, etc, have the most costumes while less popular characters only have a couple.

Also, what happens to costumes for a character who is retired from the parks?
