How many cash money

Hi,

we are going to WDW from Germany end of January. Now my question. I know that we can pay mostly with credit cards, but how many cash money do you think we need for 2 adults for 11 days?

It depends on what you would like to do once you are there and what type of budget you can work with. Without knowing what package you have purchased (if any) or where you are staying....

Food:
If you plan to eat in the parks, menus are available online (with prices)
it's just a matter of figuring out what types of food you would like. If you don't know restuarant names, feel free to ask because most people here can name them all in their sleep!:slurp:
If you want to eat counter service (hamburgers, ect.), figure on $15-$20 per meal depending on what/how much you guys eat.

Drinks:
If you both plan to drink alcoholic beverages, figure on a minimum of $5 a drink.

Entertainment:
Not all entertainment is in the parks. Disney offers many other activities, some free, some not. You can choose from golf, miniature golf, horsebackriding, boating, fishing, movie theatres, surfing lessons, spas, swimming, and tennis. (*swimming and tennis are free)
They also offer various park tours (scuba, dolphins, segway, gardens, safari, ect.) These are all priced differently (*+/- $70, some higher some lower)
Cirque Du Soliel (about $75 +/- depending on seating)
If you have an Ultimate park pass (all Disney magic packages do) then you get admission into Disney Quest otherwise it's a little over $30 per person.

I hope this gives you a better idea of what you will need to bring. Have a great trip!!!

Hi,

think I asked the wrong way :goodnevil .
We already booked the room and the tickets.
My question was not about the budget at all, but only how many money I need in *paper* and *coins* to know how many € I have to take with me or convert to $ before leaving for all the things I could not pay by credit card.

Given that you can use cards at most food stands and all the counter restauraunts, you won't need that much cash. Though when I go I prefer to pay for the odd drinks and what not in cash. It also depends on whether you want to tip using cash.

I don't know how the German banks work, but I discovered that the UK banks hide extra charges on Credit card transactions, but this was not the case with my Visa Debit card, so I used that on the last trip. The extra charge is a small percentage, but it certainly adds up over 11 days.

I'd recommend bring Dollar traveller cheques over Euro as you will have no problems using these in shops or cashing them at Guest Relations. Plus the exchange rate is very in your favour right now.

If you are using credit cards you won’t really need a large amount of cash. The only thing you really need paper money for at the parks is parking (is staying off site) and some of the quick service carts that sell drinks and snacks. $500 would probably be more than necessary. Also there are ATM machines everywhere if you run out. I usually take 2 to 4 day trips with a wife and three kids and we rarely go through more that $200.

Be certain to call your credit card company and see what the hidden charges are, and to tell them that you will be traveling overseas, so they don't think your number was stolen and block your card. I also suggest having more than one card. A debit card is likely to give you the best deal, but they aren't always 100% international -proof.

If you are staying onsite, be sure to tie your credit card to your room. That way if there are certain fees for international charges, it will be much less. Disney does that so they don't have a transaction fee every time you use your card and in turn would also save you money. They only send a charge through when you reach the limit you set.

As far as cash goes, we usually take $40 or $50 in cash per day to the parks and leave the park with most of it. So if you figure $50 per day, you should be fine. Almost every place (even many of the food stands) in the parks take credit card / room charge.

Even thought you can use a credit card just about every place in the parks, I like to use cash for food stands and small souviners (I would feel silly charging a Coke) but I normally charge sit down meals. Any time we travel we carry some cash for tips and taxis but that is about it. We dont even bother with travelers checks anymore. With cash stations set up every 100 yards around the world you can always get more cash, so bring about $200 in US currency to get yourself started and get cash if you need it. You will probably also get a better exchange rate using cretit cards too. enjoy your trip. :)

Lest we forget gratuities! This is one thing that I almost forgot about on my last trip seeing as it was my first time taking transfers alone.

In the case of some transfers, you can include the gratuity of a town car or limo onto your credit card bill. However, keep in mind if you are taking Mears or another service that it is customary to pay tips for baggage handling to the drivers and then to the bag check service at the resort. Two dollars per bag is what I've read is typical, but it most certainly depends on the quality of service as well. Also, cash is good to have on hand to pick up that quick bottle of water or ice cream bar from a vendor when a parade is about to begin or in other situations where you don't have the ability or patience to wait for an approval, a charge slip or to sign the slip when you're on the move.

Have fun!!

On our last visit we took nearly all our $ in travellers cheques but had about $100 in notes. Handy for toll booths, tipping and small purchases where credit cards and cheques are unsuitable.
We spent the cheques on meals etc and used the change to keep a float of around $100 of notes

Actually, you get the best currency conversion if you don't carry cash. Use the credit card and you will get the bank exchange rate. Normally if you change currency, the exchanger will have to take his profit from the exchange rate they offer you. Additionally, if you need cash, you should withdraw funds from your bank at a local ATM machine. In this way, you will also be able to take advantage of the bank's exchange rate. Just make sure that your bank and ATM card is affilliated with an international ATM system such as Cirrus or Star.

I've used my ATM card from the United States and have withdrawn local currency in England, Hong Kong, Australia, France and Japan with no problems.

Another caveat: Make sure you identify any possible hidden fees for the ATM transaction. Most machines in the United States charge $1.50 - $2.00 per transaction. Your local bank may also tack on a fee. Since these a per transaction, it may pay to just hit the ATM as few times as possible.

As for an estimate, I would budget about $100/per person per week to take into account any miscellaneous charges you have and to cover any purchases you don't want to have on your credit card. This has been fine for me based on my previous trips to WDW.

Renate,

You're in luck. Maestro cards are affiliated with MasterCard/Cirrus and all of the on-property ATM's will work.

Have fun when you get to Orlando.
