I am surprised I have not seen this come up yet, but with the posting of the last portion, I think it is worth discussing. Passport 2 Dreams has posted an article from October 1972 discussing the operation of Walt Disney World. It is a rather eye opening example of how Walt Disney World was still a business then but still operated on a very different business model.

How It Was Done: Part One
How It Was Done: Part Two
How It Was Done: Part Three
How It Was Done: Part Four

Depressing to compare how WDW was run THEN vs As it's run now.

thanks for that - p2d is good stuff.

don't necessarily agree with the entirety of the editorial,
but it certainly raises good talking points worth addressing.

the article itself is glorious and a poignant reminder... just wish it didn't feel like reading an obit :(

"But Card Walker is adamant about the fact that they will never franchise a park or turn it over to a third party. 'We find outsiders can't even run a restaurant for us. They always need to make money and they don't have our values.'"

the fact a third party now shares the values twdc itself has largely abandoned is yet another bullet-point in an ever-growing list of justifications for continual forefather grave rolling
