How is the Doubletree in DTD?

I have always stayed on property, but the Doubletree has an $89 special with continental breakfast and it is a suite hotel. As my daughter (age 23) says I snore, she would prefer not to sleep in the same room as me as she says it keeps her up all night. (I of course, have not seen or heard any snoring evidence lol) This way, I could sleep in the bedroom and she said she would sleep in the pullout couch. Two adjoining rooms at POP would cost more and a family suite at Music seems silly for the two of us and is even more costly.

I know we don't get extra hours in the parks but we are planning on going the weekend of labor day for a week, so I don't think we would miss the extra hours. We still get free parking in the parks I believe (I always rent a car as we go other places in Orlando as well).

I assume there is no "Disney ambiance"? Having always stayed in a disney hotel, usually POP or POR or POFQ, will I miss it terribly? And how is the Doubletree?

Never stayed at the Doubletree, but have stayed at some of the other Downtown Disney hotels and I would much much MUCH rather stay at any of them that POP. Bigger rooms, better transportation, more amenities, and a fraction of the price. Much preferred to POP.

Well I have to say this.. I have not stayed at the Doubletree..according to the website it looks nice..
1. The DT is the farthest hotel from DTD on Hotel Plaza Blvd. As soon as you make the left onto it from 535 its right there..I hope you dont plan to walk to DTD.. However you are fairly close to that intersection,,across the street is a Uno, McDs, a grocery store, Fuddruckers (somen else cant remember)
2. The DTD transportation line is NOT the same as Disney.. they drop you off in Timbukto..'
3. You do not get free parking at the parks (looks closely cuz they might be charging you at the hotel to park or worse..resort fees!)
4. my dollar store sells earplugs:wave::ROFLOL:
Have fun!

Double Tree

I have stayed at the Double Tree and my family liked it a lot. I was in high school at the time and we did rent a car. The liked the hotel because of the location (we loved going to Gooding's grocery store) and they had a kid's entertainment room with popcorn and movies. We still talk about the warm chocolate chip cookies we got there. Yum. I remember the hotel room being nice: two fulls and a pull-out couch, but it was always humid in there no matter how high we cranked the AC. Overall, it was a nice place to stay, but it was just a room. And none of the Disney perks applied to this hotel to my knowledge.

Thank you for your replies. We always rent a car as we go other places in orlando, and I like the convenience of not having to wait for buses, especially when the parks close.

I have only stayed offsite once when we went with another family and rented a 3 bedroom condo. Didn't like it, although we had a lot of space. Now that the discounts have come out, I am debating renting two rooms at POP. It is just me and DD age 23, so not concerned about her in her own room, although I would rest better with connecting rooms. S always seems so miserable at night because she says I snore . I always feel bad, plus then she wakes me up to get me to stop, and neither one of us have a good night sleep. I will have 750 disney points so that would help (had hoped to use them for room and tickets, almost free stay), but at least with the discounts the 750 would cover two rooms at POP (although I prefer POFQ). Ah, the delema.

ANyone with any good ideas on how to stop snoring? We have even given her benadryl to help HER sleepl Didn't work, nor do those nose strips for me.

Usually we get one room and both grin and bare it. (She is very sensative as she complains when she shares a room with friends if someone breaths too loud lol). I don't think I am THAT bad!

We stayed at the Doubletree in Sept 2008. The rooms were very nice. They have refridge/microwave which was great for us. We loved the continental breakfast (free w/room promo that we had). Also loved having the extra space! The hotel was very quiet. In general, I would definitely stay there again if we were staying off property for the rate you stated.

However, I'm not sure that the suite would work for your purposes regarding the snoring issue. Rooms may have been updated since 2008, but then, the doors between the bedroom and the pull-out sofa bed were louvered, bi-fold, closet-styled doors. It didn't help much as a sound barrier.

If you find out any successful secrets to curing snoring short of surgery, let me know. I could use them!

It has been quite a while but I have stayed at the double tree in question and I would rate it as good to fair. The room itself is great, the resort...I could take it or leave it. From the most part it is your average Orlando area hotel. Nothing special but nothing all that bad either. The things I hate about this resort are pretty common for all non-Disney resorts. Those being parking fees, resort fees, no free parking at the parks and an absolutely abysmal bus service. That $90 a night room ends up costing you $130 plus you are shelling out $14 a day to park at the parks.

For the snoring for you....See an ear nose and throat doctor. There are a myriad of things that cause snoring and many people, myself included, have multiple conditions that have to be addressed to fix the problem. Solutions can range anywhere from a simple mouth piece to surgery. The bottom line is snoring, even minor snoring, is simply not good for you. Fix the issue for your own sake.

For you daughter..... It sounds like she is overly sensitive to sound. The quick fix for this ear plugs.

Not stayed at this particular hotel, but the doubletrees are usually really good value for money as well as clean.

I've stayed there a few times over the past couple years and find the hotel to be a good choice. The only negatives I experienced is the parking fee per night ($10.00 the last time I was there) and some of the rooms have a faint moldy smell to them.

Thanks. I have decided I don't want to give up the extra hours and perks for staying at a disney hotel. Have always stayed at one in the past. So it will either be two rooms at POP or sharing one at POFQ...perhaps take some white noise with us or something
