How Good is T-Rex?

I was thinking about eating there after my cruise since I have to wait the day after the Disney Cruise returns for me to fly home. I heard from people that T-Rex is just like Rainforest Cafe. Well I like Dinosaurs and I like Rainforest Cafe. So is it really good that I should go?

If you like Rainforrest and Dinosaurs you "should" like T-Rex. That being said we ate what will more than likely be our last meal there a few months ago. A little background...We have been going to RFC for more than 12 years. We are safari club members, ate at either T-Rex or RFC half a dozen or more times per year, we even had our wedding rehearsal dinner there. It is quite correct to say we were fans of the place. Unfortunately, the quality of the food and service have simply become far to inconsistent. With all of the options available at, Disney RFC and T-Rex have moved below last resort options for us.

Oh okay so it's food isn't that great and service is bad. Okay I'll keep that in mind. Just wanting to make sure before my final decision.

If you are going to be in Downtown Disney I would highly recommend Raglan Rd. Great food, great service and if you are there in the evening, great entertainment.

Agree with Master Yoda,it's not a gastronomic adventure,it is however a restaurant where the kids love due to the surroundings of Dino's and meteor showers etc.I've an ADR in just over four weeks and my son will have a blast. He already has picked his meal.Onion ring stack and a New York strip steak.Iam looking forward to the new candy cocktails.:)

Give the meteor bites a whirl. It is one of the consistently good things there.

My personal opinion on places like Rainforest and T-Rex is that you are going for the experience of it and not necessarily the food (never an excuse for bad service either way though). We liked T-Rex and we will go again but it's not because of the food... it's because of the theming and the look on our kiddo's face as he takes everything in thru the entire meal. :) Not to say the food was bad, it wasn't, it was good. But if you're looking for GREAT food, the "chains" like this usually aren't your best option.

Well I was planning on going for the Dinosaurs, loved them since I was four.

I'll weigh my pros and cons before deciding.

DH & I had a gift card that could be used at T-Rex or Rainforest Cafe so we chose T-Rex last year in May. We enjoyed the food, it wasn't the best we've ever had, but it was pretty good. We are far from "foodie" type people though and while dining is a major part of our experience at Disney, we are pretty easy to please. Our service was great, very attentive server, but then again we had a late lunch and the place was not crowded at all, so maybe that had something to do with it. The dinosaurs were awesome, much better I think than Rainforest Cafe. We enjoyed our experience enough that we are going back there for lunch on our trip this coming September.

Same here, we loved the food and enjoyed the atmosphere, but over the past year and a half, the food quality has diminished and is inconsistent. I would pass if it were about the food.

DisneyGirl313: My recommendation, if you like seafood, I love Fulton's Crab House...They have always had consistently excellent food, the problem I run into with them though, is they run out of the favorites. If you choose to go there, try to get an early booking.

I agree with Hatter and ExtinctJen....we ate there just before new years at DTD, the hour long wait was to be expected..I didnt have an ADR..and DTD was absolutley packed. The atmosphere in T-Rex was amazing...each dining room has a different theme..and the meteor shows are a blast...we had very good service on that night...and the food was ok..not world class but none of us and there were 5 left thinking we would never come back..very diverse menu as well...and a bar to enjoy while you wait

I think the food is better at RFC, but the theming is brilliant at T-Rex. The food is fine, just nothing special. What we didn't like was the temperature, it was freezing in there - so cold that our food cooled down before we'd finished. I luckily had a sweater with me but I was still uncomfortably cold, and no we weren't in the Ice Room!

Be warned, if you decide to try T-Rex, and it is worth a visit, wrap up warm.

It was cold...as a matter of fact

Be aware that Fulton's is a Signature restaurant ( 2 TS credits for "normal" dining plan).

We've been to the T-Rex cafe twice for lunch and have had nothing but good times there. The place is a wonder to experience, especially with little ones. The food was actually better than we expected and there were never any issues with the service. We use the DDP plan every year and still go there and pay out of pocket for it, so we were very happy to find it now on the Dining Plan.

T-Rex is a becoming a family tradition for my family. We eat there every trip and the kids get to pick a Build A Dino after our meal!! We enjoy the atmosphere and the food is fine.

Agree with Master Yoda and Hatter. The food is average on a good day. Theming is wonderful. We were Safari club members and are Landry Select Club members. Used to go to RFC a bunch. We live in an area that has a Trex and prefer it to RFC, but only go more for special occasions now vs the once or twice a month we used to do RFC.

One Little Spark...
T-Rex is ok. The food is on par with TGI Fridays, in my opinion, at a steeper cost. The environment is still fun, especially the Ice Age (no not the movie)section.

That restaurant does make me feel like I"m eating my meal inside Ellen's Energy Adventure.
