How does Universe of Energy manage to remain open?

They got rid of Wonders of life which had so much potential, many more attractions and was appealing to all ages, they shut down Horizons which never had a line but somehow Universe of Energy at the state its in is left untouched and as far as I know open all year around. That attractions is worse and probably more vacant then the 2 combined. Thats a great hunk of space to install 4 space simulators or to make into an events pavilion. Just one room in that building is good enough to fit some events plus there wouldn't be much gutting required with the projectors up high and the tracks flush to the ground. It amazes me that that ride is still open and that they would pick that ride over Horizons or Wonders of Life.

We have to have somewhere to take a 20 minute nap. ;)

I personally don't have a problem with UoE, and find the dinosaur scene to be top notch as far as themed ambience goes (when all the effects are working properly). I also like Ellen as a host, but find Bill Nye to be a bit on the dated side. The movie section(s) could certainly use a much needed revamp with new characters & a new script. (Big Bang Theory tie-in, anyone?) Seriously, that would actually work tying-in the popular TV show's characters to the attraction...Sheldon Cooper is about to reveal a breakthrough on energy, and something goes wrong...etc, etc.

But yeah, the dino scene needs to stay despite whatever happens to the surrounding films leading up to & after. I've always found the dino ride-thru to be quite relaxing, and like I said, having a great themed environment.

Just make a shortened video and keep the dino scene. Keep Ellen as the host, as I like her, but I could take or leave Bill Nye. At least that's what I'd do. Unless you added something completely new, I'm okay with that, too! (As long as it isn't on the same level as SGE)

The thing is, with an entire pavilion closed (WOL) and the botched dressing down of SE, Imag, and Nemo, and the quickly aging MS, I don' think they are touching this one any time soon. There are slim pickings left in FW. TT is not an anchor-worthy park attraction either. Good, but not strong to carry the load on its own. Same with the Land. They can't afford to get rid of it. The dinosaur scenes are the best and some of the older nostalgic pieces of FW that are of the many that people would have melt downs, including myself if they touched.

Ellen is fine. Funny, upbeat and never boring. But I agree the show could change otherwise. and I would love if they even considered Big Bang.

Well,

My wife loves to nap throught it. I personally enjoy UoE for the nostalgia. The dinorsaur scene mostly...

I grew up on Bill Nye...and he's okay...but between the crap they did to the Seas and Ellen being on UoE, I get a little tired of her schtick. I agree it is time for a re-do. And while I love the dinosaurs...they kinda suck when compared to the ones over at AK. Time to upgrade.

I have to agree though with Mrs. Toad...there's so much other stuff that needs to be addressed in the park in Futureworld all by itself. The mantenance is relatively low (when compared with other attractions there) with UoE and it has a large crowd-eating capacity...

I think given enough time...eventually (probably five minutes before my death!) they'll redo it...but for now it works...albeit cheesily.

UoE is one of the first rides I went on on our first family trip several years ago (about 17). I was very impressed then with the ride. Face it, you are overwelmed on your first visit and everything looks great. I still like this ride and am a bit worried that if they update it they will screw it up like SE and the Stich ride at MK.

How does it remain open? The attraction has the holy trinity of features that make it attractive from a park operations/management perspective.

It is cheap to run.
It is cheap to maintain.
It has a favorable cost to capacity ratio.

Neither Horizons or WoL had all three of those features.

I love UoE, i just wish they would give it some TLC and update it a bit, I love Ellen in it to! I think it Manages to stay open because its a people eater when it is busy, and as others have said FW is running out of attractions as they keep closing and not replacing things properly! FW is far far from what it used to be!

I would love a Big Bang Theory re-theming, but I'm guessing it would be tough since that's a CBS show. I must say that I was never a big fan of Body Wars, but it would still be something additional to do with your time in Epcot.
