How does Disney calculate room occupancy?

I know this has been asked before, but I can't seem to locate the answer. Is there a certain age where a child is counted toward the room limit? Example: If I have 4 adults and 2 kids, one 8 and the other 1, how would Disney use this toward room occupancy limits?

I'm thinking of going through Dave's and some 1 bedroom villas are listed as 5. Would this mean my hypothetical would be allowed?

Thanks!

4 adults and 2 kids. 6 people. The rooms only sleep 5. So you should not be able to do this. Everyone in the room has to be listed on the reservation. I think I read it is to do with fire codes.

At first I thought you were asking about the hotel occupency percentage.

I seem to remember something about kids under 2 could share the bed with parents. This could be totally wrong, I may be remembering incorrectly. I would call Disney and ask.

If you haven't the time to call, you can start as if you are going to make a reservation on the website by putting in the ages and numbers of occupancy - if the room type you are looking for shows up, then you will know it is possible. I was able to book a room that normally sleeps 4 at Disneyland Paris for 2 adults and 3 children because one child was under the age of 3 at the time.

I've typically seen WDW room occupancies expressed in terms of, "[x number] individuals, plus a child under 3 in a crib."

In other words, it's generally the number of sleeping spaces (4 in a typical standard room or studio; 5 in a room that also has a Murphy bed, etc.), PLUS one child under 3 in a crib. So yes, OP, I would think your scenario would be permissible if the listed occupancy is 5, and your party of 6 includes an infant.

I'd simply call David's to double-check though -- we've rented through them before and their customer service via phone and e-mail was fast and friendly, and their reps thoroughly knowledgeable.

It is the maximum room occupancy plus 1 child under the age of three in a crib. I have three children and used to stay at POP until the youngest hit 3. Now stay at POR or CBR in a room with pull down bed.

Thanks everyone. This is how I understood it as well. I think we're good with 5 person studios.

I think you are right because we have BWI reserved this June for the last 5 nights, and we are 2 adults, 3 kids and an infant (crib)

Yes members have confirmed that the child under 3 in a crib is allowed over the the maximum. I originally said sharing a bed and I have no idea where that came from lol. But at least now we know for sure.
