Styrophome, modeling clay, very detailed spray paint equipment, knives (mostly surgicle type), and alot of talent and time.

Most craft stores or hobby shops would carry most of the supplies necessary to build scale models. As long as you have some basic hand tools (those depend on materails being used and complexity of model).

I recently built a tabletop Water fountain using paper mache, wire mesh, wood, lots and lots of hot glue:D, small water pump and tubing, and it turned out quite well, and sounds beautiful. I've been considering trying my hand at some scale models of Disney-esque stuff. It takes alot of time and dedication to these type of projects...

Good luck!

First let me say, you need lotsa room!
We currently have an HO scale layout of Disneyland in our spare room/

got any pics? i would love to see it... i remember seeing a scale model of the magic kingdom in a mall once and i was so fascinated by it that i used to beg my mom to take us back to the mall just to see it like everyday, so i would love to see your model of disneyland if you have any pics of it

Trust me don't go into architecture unless you plan on spending ever waking moment studying and building models that most likely are going to be ripped apart by the professor because its not how he thinks it should be and you should know that. Its a very very very long process and from the few architects Ive talked to while Ive been studying most of the stuff I'm learning about model building I will never even use because its all on computer now. Go Figure.
Also it looses its fun factor when you have to do it day and day and day over again and again.

If you have the talent or the desire study to be a architect and get paid to do it

You don't need to be an architect to build scale models. In fact most model enthusiasts are FAR from architects.

Most train hobby shops (especially on line hobby shops) will carry every material and tool you could imagine that would aid you in building scale models. There are also many books and magazines that can put you in the right direction. Most of all you just need some creativity and PATIENCE! :D

Some materials you'll find useful for building buildings like the ones you pictured are, styrofoam, foam board and balsa wood. Paint of course is also an important ingredient. ;)

I have a small N-Scale model in my basement. It took my father and I 13 years to build and we have yet to finish it. Infact, it never will be finished. I constantly add and remove stuff from it. You do something one day that you think is a good idea and the next day, you realize that you want to change it, therefore it is a constant process.

The layout is 32 square feet with about 120ft. of double track, switches, yards, and sidings. The detail is great and I am ver please with most of it while some parts need some more work.

Very cool. I still have my "N" guage train, but I never had a layout.

All my friends growing up had "HO", I never knew anyone else that had an "N"

I'm definitetly impressed!
