How crazy will early August be.....

Very hot, very crowded...

Do as much as you can to maximize FPs and plan to return to your resort for a swim/rest during peak sun. It's still Disney and you'll still have a wonderful time, just moreso if you plan...

DH and I have been to the World twice at the beginning of August, once for our honeymoon and once for our anniversary. It is very hot and is sometimes crowded. I never found it obnoxiously crowded.

I would recommend taking a nap in the middle of the day and then heading back to the parks after 3 or 4. Make sure you have a lot of water throughout the day and don't be afraid to take breaks.

Hope this helps!:wave:

It will be insanely busy in August, even without travel deals ... When we need a fix and go during these times, we only go on things that have FP, and we use the TTA (a lot) in the meantime. Even that has had a decent line during August (think a line back to the AstroOrbiter).

I won't do early August again if I can schedule a different time to go.
I'm about at a point in my life where I don't want to fight the fight anymore. Doing the commando thing is getting quite old...fighting the crowds, melting in the heat and humidity, sloshing in the huge downpours of rain August has to offer! You may not have a choice, if you have kids in school or such. For our family's next trip to WDW we may do early June again, just when school lets out, or we may just take our kids out of school and go when things are quieter as others on other threads have suggested.
I once thought going in early August was better than not going at all, not so much anymore, but if faced with the fact, I would go again in early August but do things a bit differently. Since my last trip to WDW in early August 2008, I feel it would have been better for us to pick a more relaxed time to go. It would been easier for our tempers, easier for our bodies and best of all we would have enjoyed our vacation more.

To answer your question though, it will be a more intense experience going at the time you ask, manageble...yes, but try to do too much and you may hit a brick wall, especially if touring as a family. Keep hydrated, take plenty of breaks and definately, if staying on property, get back to the hotel and take some pool time in the early afternoon with the kids especially. I cannot stress this enough! As hard as it maybe to do to break away from the parks, it is a big mistake my family made of not doing last time!

I'm going in August for the 2nd year in a row. Yes it is wicked hot, but knowing that makes it a little easier. We didn't find it intensely crowded last year which is why we didn't object to it this year. Then again my kids aren't tall enough for most of the thrill rides yet so we can avoid the crowds and FPs for those which are usually insane.

My kids are usually up around 7am, so we get up and go to the parks when they open and take advantage of as many morning EMHs as possible. We always take an afternoon break so little one can nap and older son can swim for awhile. We head back to parks just before dinner time, well rested and well cooled off.

Lastly we try to plan an OFF day in the middle of all our vacations simply to relax and unwind. We'll stay in the room a bit later, maybe do some shopping or resort hopping. This helps manintain all of our sanity.

It's hot, it's crowded. Who cares!? It's DISNEY!:lol::sohappy:

We usually go then too and we always have a blast...even if we have to wait in line.

I have gone several times in August as well and don't mind the heat. I also have found that if you get to the parks at park opening times that the crowds are not bad, and alot can get done by the time it gets crowded.
