How close are all the parks?

Absolutely! How long it takes to get between parks depends on the parks you're going to. For example, Epcot to the Studios is about a 20 minute walk or a boat ride. I'd allot at least an hour, maybe more, to get anywhere else though, just in case you have to wait a while for the next bus/monorail. A nice way to plan park hopping is to go to one park in the morning, take an afternoon break, then go to another park in the evening.

Every time I visit WDW we park hop. Park hopping doesn't restrict you to one park so you can use extra magic hours everyday and skip the lines in one park and then go to a different park during the day. Then at night during extra magic hours, hop to the other park so you can hop on rides. Park hopping saves my family tons of time. Would totally recommend it.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Yes!!!! We always park hop nearly every day! Especially with the parks that on particular nights close earlier and others are open later etc. We go at times when the hours are shorter in the slow times and STILL have time to park hop!! We do drive our own car so that cuts out some waiting time on the busses when we cant use the monorail. Also we are not bound to have to eat somewhere at a certain park. We can be in one and decide to eat in another etc and not be limited. We love the Park Hopper and will never go without it. :)

Caromac if you are a first timer I don't recommend it. There is so much to see and do in each park it would take you several days to do everything in each park alone. Once you have been a few times and know what you like to do and see, you will be able to plan it better get in see and do what you want and then get out and hop somewhere else and do the same. but for first timers or even second timers its best to just enjoy the time in the park for the one you chose that day. they all have night time shows except AK (which might be changing soon) so there really isnt any reason to go to another park unless you are frequent traveler. I have been many many times and now don't park hop anymore. When I was younger on a tight budget I would rush through 2 parks per day and do Disney in two days. I hit most of the stuff I wanted to. but wouldnt say that i soaked in all Disney had to offer because I was rushing from ride to ride show to show park to park to get the most in. Not to mention I was beat the next few days as if I ran a marathon and it always bugged me when I was leaving one park it typically takes an hour to get to another park. To me thats an hour wasted. I could have rode a ride or two, saw a show, or done so much more with that hour than sit on a bus and/or monorail. Just my opinion and hope it helps.

We always "hop" too!! One day, we went to the MK and saw the crowds so we turned around, left and went to EPCOT for the day. We enjoy the World Showcase Restaurants so we can spend the day in one park and go to EPCOT for dinner. Download Disney Parks Magic Mobile to your smartphone and it will tell you the easiest and quickest way to get from point A to point B. Hopping gives you so much flexibility.

We have always done it. Takes a little longer if you are relying on the buses rather than taking your own car, but we do it every trip. MK to EPCOT can be done via monorail.

Park hopping is totally doable, just allow yourself 40min-1hr of travel time because of traveling on buses most of the time. It is easy to park hop between MK and Epcot because of the monorail, to to hop between HS and Epcot because you can boat it or walk it. Just don't expect to be to your next park within 10 minutes, sometimes its fast sometimes it isn't just depends on your timing with transportation.

We sometimes go into AK and ride Dinosaur and the Safari, breeze thru a few stores and leave by 10:30 or 11 am. Hop in the car and head to another parki. Takes all of 20 minutes to half an hour to get to another park. Having your own transportation is much faster sometimes then WDW transportation.

Is park hopping realistic?

There is a monorail connection between MK and EPCOT. There is a boat you can take between EPCOT and HS. All others you have to go to a resort and take another bus. From MK you can go over to any of the hotels on the monorail loop and catch a bus from there. There is no buses between parks. If you have your own car the parks are less than 10 miles apart. We use park hopper by going to one park in the morning. Then back to hotel and then a different one at night. This gives us time off in between. When we are with the grand kids it gave them nape time.

Im a one park per day person too. Mainly because the ticket is cheaper and its all I need anyway. I like having one full day in each park and I make my ADR for a restaurant in that park unless we are going to DD.

Having just recently hopped for the first time I have to say that I will never NOT hop again! It made it easier- if we only wanted to see a few things in one park, and eat at another, or do EMH somewhere. The slowest hop was when we waited for the bus from AK to DHS- we waited 25 minutes but the other people ahead of us in line waited 40. The exception not the rule.

It's a nice option to be able to hop when the need or feeling arises. Two years back at Christmas time, my kids got up early and went over to AK and rode EE several times, while me and the wife slept in for a bit. I would say that we tend to hop more as we get deeper into our trip, as by then we have hit each park at least once, and are going back to see things we missed, or want to do again.

Totally depends on you and your park habits. It can be beneficial, especially when one park closes earlier than another. However, it can tie up a lot of time. 10-15 mins to walk to the bus stop/car, 20 mins wait/bus ride, then another 10-15 mins to get into the second park. Is losing 1 out of 12 park hours (assuming a 9-9 day) worth it to you?

On solo days where I am going on a quick targeted park visit, hopping to all 4 parks can be fun. But on those days I am purposely only hitting select attractions, and moving on with purpose. It's a very different touring style than ones where I try to enjoy the park and the atmosphere.
