How busy is the middle of May?

After 30 trips to WDW in the past 15 years, I am contemplating a trip around May 12th. I have always gone during Christmas or in summer, and once right after Labor Day which was great. I have not been since September 2011 (which blows my mind that it has been that long), and am looking at the opportunity to go in May but it will be last minute so I probably won't have much time to book FP+. (have never used it obviously and am skeptical as I have never been a WDW planner in the past). Probably will be there with my 81 year old mother (going to Orlando for her sister's 90th birthday), and last time we went to together she was 75 (she loved Tower of Terror).

We probably will go to two parks and she will most likely need a wheel chair as it will be a lot of walking for her. Thinking MK and Epcot. So, having said that.....how busy is it around May 12th-15th? We can also go May 18th-21. (party is the 17th) And if I don't get FP+ for MK and Epcot, will I be out of luck for most attractions?

May is a nice time to visit (the Flower and Garden Festival goes to about mid-May). Although, in the past few years, May has been getting busier than before. I think part of it has to do with the extended Star Wars Weekends, which brings in quite a few fans. (The 2015 dates for Star Wars Weekends are: May 15 - June 14.) Still, I think May is preferable to the summer months, in my experience. Hope you and your mom have a nice trip.

We were there last May that same week you're going and it was fine. Perfect time before schools let out and it becomes extremely hot. As the other poster mentioned, it has gotten more crowded though in the last few years with Star Wars Weekends and those guests that don't want to deal with the Spring Break or Summer crowds. Whatever you decide, have a great trip!

I went with my family last May from the 19 through the 27 and honestly, the crowds weren't all that bad. The only time it was crowded and hard to move was during the 24 hour event at Magic Kingdom.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Spring break is late this year.
Not that late! Lol most spring breaks are over by the end of April even if they are late. Easter is early this year and most are somewhere around Easter weeks before or after. May will be fine until last week near Memorial Day. :)

We went in May 2010 around the second week.
Crowds manageable. One day it was really hot so we enjoyed the pool at resort during the hottest part of day and went to park morning and evenings. The other days were nice. Flower and Garden Festival is amazing. Saw Chubby Checker sing at Epcot. So cool:)

Thank you everyone. Going to see Mom in Arizona and we can discuss the dates. As her sister's party in the 17th, I am thinking, based on the advice here, that before the party would be best to go rather than after.
