Housing Off Property for CP?

Has anyone ever done the Disney College Program and lived off of property, i.e., not in company housing like Vista Way or Chatham? I have myriad reasons not to live in the housing for the College Program including my kitten -- they aren't pet-friendly. :)

Anyway, I just want to know if anyone here has done it, and if you have, what your experience was like, how you afforded it, if you managed to stay a part of the CP social scene or not, etc... either message here or IM me on AIM, joefox97.

Thanks! I really appreciate any help on this one.

From my understanding if you are in the college program you have to stay at the property. Did you read the FAQ's on the college program website. I dont think you could live what they pay the CP's. But I would find an e-mail address and e-mail them to make sure.

I've heard that you can live off property, but they will take the rent for the CP apartment out of your paycheck regardless.

That would make no sense to take the pay out even though you do not live there. Just ask a recruiter or like I said e-mail them and ask directly.

I appreciate the replies, but I guess I wasn't clear enough with my request.

I know it is POSSIBLE to live off property, and I know that I have to make arrangements and get housing's blessing before I do it. (I don't think that'll be a problem -- they probably don't want me anywhere near the apartments... that's only funny if you know my story). I want to find out if anyone HAS done it from this board to find out how it went and what their experience was.

Thanks again!

really I have heard of no one doing this....

BUT, I will say that I am 95% sure you will lose out on most things. One of the best parts of being on the program is that the people you work with live in the same place you do. I remember the constant problems that we ran into just trying to hang out when it came to people living between chatham and vista.

To me, it would just make sence to go FT since you will be missing out on most of the CP stuff anyways.

That is just my 2 cents

I would think the greatest challenge would be financial.

If you stay in the CP apartments, cost is low because house-sharing is arranged for you, utilities included, and you ride a bus.

If you (and kitten) could arrange to rent a room somewhere, or share an apartment, you might make the numbers work. It would be tough, though, especially now --- when a tank of gas costs $35 bucks.
