HOTR #1 Movie In America

....for Monday April 12th only. At least according to www.boxofficemojo.com Kind of peculiar that a movie would first win a day a week and a half after being released but perhaps a disproportionate amount of younger kids had the day after Easter off from school. HOTR is going to struggle to get to 50 million domestically.

At it's second week, it's down to #6.

It's during spring break for most students. all the kid movies moved up the list.

HOTR was #1 again on Tuesday, April 13th. Its not going to be a box office success by any means, but at least it is playing pretty decent during the week. From week to week, it is making about the same this Monday and Tuesday compared to last Monday's and Tuesday's numbers (around 1.1-1.2 million) Usually you see some type of larger drop from week to week.Its total now stands at 30.0 million. For comparison, Lilo and Stitch (Disney's last real animated success) made around 34 million in its first weekend alone.

Not sure whether it was #1 on Thursday again. Obviously, it will not be #1 on any day this weekend. It is losing a little just about 10% of its theatres from the first 2 weeks. Jim Hill ran a story yesterday indicating that there is a theory that Disney purposely under-promoted the film so that Chicken Little would blow it away next year and justify the cuts to WDFA. Jim tends to over dramaticize these things so I tend not to believe it. I saw HOTR on opening day. Though my kids loved it (I think they love everything) I thought it was pretty disappointing. Animation was fine, soundtrack was excellent but the script was rather unfunny.

Well, its pretty peculiar, HOTR is obviously a box office disappointment in terms of gross. On the other hand its been a Top 10 movie in every day in April.
