Hotel Upgrades?

Hello,

I know that this is discussed here often, but how many of you have a requested an upgrade at check-in and received it? Has anyone received free upgrade to club level when requested at check-in?

We were able to request Savannah View room on our last trip, but this seems to occur less and less as I think all rooms are scheduled days in advance and it's troublesome for the Cast Members to change the rooms after they are assigned.

The official line is that free upgrades are given based on the operational needs of the resort. If you ask for an upgrade, you will be charged for it.

Unofficially, what you are going to hear is all over the map. You will hear cases of going from a standard room to a prefered room all the way to being walked from one of the All Stars to a Club level room, MK view at the Contemporary and everything in between. Upgrades from one room category to another are not that uncommon if the resort is not full. Upgrades to club level are pretty rare as are upgrades to another resort.

Over the past few years I have found the official line to be adhered to 99% of the time.

In your particular case at AKL, there are rooms that have a view of the savannah, but they are not classified as such due to a partially obstructed view. If you book a standard and request savannah the staff will commonly put you in one of those rooms.

We have been upgraded to club level at WL twice without requesting it. However, both times we were booked in a courtyard-view bunk bed room (the only category available when we booked), which is the category just below club level, so wonder if that had anything to do with it.

I have never requested an upgrade at check in, but have been fortunate enough to be upgraded w/o asking. At AKL we were upgraded to Savanna view from standard. At AoA we booked a LM room and upgraded to a car suites. At POR we were upgraded from standard view to pool view.
